Facebook Share Issue - Open Graph Protocol - meta property="og:url"

Hi guys,

I am currently testing the forum and I have trouble sharing topics on social media platforms like Facebook.  When I try to share a topic it seems that Facebook is only picking up the Forum page i.e. http://www.website.com/forums and then using the websites General meta description as the description.

I suspect that it has something to do with the Open Graph Protocol meta property that is used by All In One SEO plugin.  The current go:url that is displayed is <meta property="og:url" content="http://www.website/forums" /> .

I have been playing around with the SEO Open Graph settings but I can't figure out how to configure it so that it shows the correct forum topic link and not just the general forum page. <meta property="go:url" content="http://www.website/forums/rules/forum rules" />

I will appreciate it if anyone can offer me some advice.

Thank you in advance.

Jon.

I have not uses SEO Open Graph but it sounds like it has the same issue that JetPack and other OG tools have with dynamic WP pages. They see them all as /forums because they use the permalink for the page using get_permalink() and not the canonical link.
This is something that we have looked at before in regards to possible creating a plugin for it but trying to include it only for the forum page and not break or double up what the OG plugins do is tricky. :(

how are you sharing the page??  with wp plugin?  or our SP Share This plugin?  the latter will work... as Brandon says, wp plugins tend to ignore that a page can have dynamic content...

Thank you for the quick reply guys.

I have tried to share the link direct in Facebook and SP Share This plugin but both giving the same results.

I see that both All In One SEO and Jetpack are adding go:url tags…  The problem is I need it for my normal posts but not for the dynamic pages so I will need to find a way to disable it on a specific page so that it uses the canonical link instead.

Ok I removed the default go:url created by the All In One SE SEO, Socialize and Jetpack plugin and installed Facebook Revised Open Graph Meta Tag which seems to add the correct go:url for the forum topic but it still does not share correctly in Facebook.  It still share the /Forums page...

Is it maybe possible for someone to have a quick look at the forum to see if there is anything wrong cause SP Share This plugin is also not sharing the correct topic link.

I am sure my situation is not that unique, are there any other suggestions for SEO Plugins?  i.e. will Yast SEO manage these dynamic pages better than All In One SEO ?

It looks like you only have one topic in the forums. Facebook will cache previous attempts to share a page and save that url.  Now that you have the correct OG Url I would create some brand new topics and try sharing them.

Ok I thought I had it all sorted after installing NextGEN Facebook OG.  It was working correctly but the plugin was causing all sorts of weird errors on the site.

Does anyone have any OG WP plugin recommendation that will work with this forum and with the normal posts?  NextGEN Facebook OG was working well and included the image that was attached to the forum post, the correct title and description.

Any recommendations will be appreciated.

still a little confused as to the problem with our share this plugin...  it was sharing the wrong url???  have not seen that, even with other facebook apps running...  or just that it wont share an image from the topic?
