Failed update of SP plugin to 5.0.1

When I saw a new version, I just tried to update my Simple Press plugin from 5.0 to 5.0.1 and now it seems as if my site’s forum is gone? I hesitate to do anything since I’m not a wordpress expert and I don’t want to lose anything. This was the response after I tried to update. Can anyone advise? Thanks in advance!

The update process is starting. This process may take a while on some hosts, so please be patient.

Well to get you back up and working it might be best if you upload the new version manually.
But it looks like WP failed to remove the old version first (which it does in its updater) so perhaps you need to check permissions on the plugin folder just to make sure. Or you could do this fist and have another go at the updater.
We usually recommend 755 for folders and 644 for files.

I deleted the current plugin via FTP and re-installed the update manually. Works great and back to normal! Thank you!
