File uploading error

Some users have tried to upload avatars on my forum at http://problem-with-post-edit-.....ting-forum but they end up with an error.

The file path comes up as pictures/fake path/filename.jpg

The "fake path" thing is completely generated by simple press... what's the deal with that?

fake path? what do you mean? we dont add any kind of words to the url like that.... and you determine the storage location for file uploads on forum - integration - storage locations...

also, when I visited your forum, I was served a cached page... you cannot cache the wp page the forum content shows up on... since all content appears on a single wp page, its dynamic in nature... all caching is handled internal... you must tell your caching plugin not to cache the wp page the forum is on...

the caching issue may be related...

Are you sure? I don't even have any type of caching turned on right now.

How do you see that my page is being cached?

According to our moderator, Brandon, this is your problem with the 'fakepath' issue. I don't pretend to understand it but then again I don't understand Internet Explorer either and never use it:

As to the caching - we know because like all cache plugins it advertises itself in the generated source code of your site. At the very bottom:

<!--Cached using Nginx-Helper on 2013-07-02 08:23:11. It took 75 queries executed in 0.796 seconds.-->

I dont use internet explorer either, and while you might see a caching plugin installed, its not active on the site. This is why i was wondering what method you were using to determine that you were "being served a cached page". In this case, you were incorrect.

Additionally, when it is active, it excludes the forum page as well as all subpages, in addition to all wishlist member pages.

The problem is one that was reported to me by one of my users. I was able to replicate the problem on my girlfriends PC.

If two people have the same problem, it seems like its not on "my end", with all due respect.

dont want to go there, but with tens of thousands of users using it fine, would indicate its not a general problem either...

and if I were you, and thought caching were off, I would very much want to know why every page on my server is outputting this message in the page source:

<!--Cached using Nginx-Helper on 2013-07-02 15:01:58. It took 75 queries executed in 5.844 seconds.-->
<!--Visit http://wordpress.org/extend/pl.....elper/faq/ for more details-->

did you try the change in the link provided?

and you can search our code, no way for us to change any path to fake path...

so at this point, at little more detective work needed... lets rule out the wp theme or another plugin (though I would suspect something on server like image protection especially if caching is running without your knowledge)...

Try a temp switch to the default wp theme...  and see if still occurring..  then disable all other plugins and see if it still occurs...

Hey Guys,

I was actually using the "email response" thingy, and somehow didn't see the link.  I will investigate that immediately.

Nginx is caching my site?  That is bizarre... I thought you were referring to W3 Total Cache which is installed but deactivated on my site.

I was not aware that any type of additional caching was going on.

Gentlemen... I stand fully corrected.  I apologize for doubting you, and I will put in the time necessary to fix these issues and get back to you.

Mr. Papa, Mr. Fish, I appreciate all of your help very much, and look forward to being annoying in the future!

Thanks again.

np. we are hear to help...  and would really like to understand what is going on...

yeah, unfortunately, the subscription emails strip out html tags since the emails are sent in plaintext... we have considered going back to html emails, but when we did that before, we had way a ton of problems with different clients..

and to be clear, the nginx cache thing is still a WordPress plugin based on the link in the message... if your host is a so called WordPress host (like wp engine) they may be forcing it on you... perhaps its in the mu-plugins folder or just a dropin (in wp-content)...
