Hi Simple Press team

As I continue my journey towards finalizing a forum for our website, I have come across another problem:

Scenario: New user registers and then logs in.

1. The user is registering using the "http://www.abcdomain.com/wp-login.php?action=register". The user is told to check their e-mail.

2. The new user registration e-mail is received and the password is set with no issues.

3. The user is then asked to login (after the password is reset) all through the usual WordPress screen flow.

4. The user logs in FOR THE FIRST TIME, but the user is redirected to home page even though I have specified in the login redirect option of simplepress to have the user redirected to the forum page. Do you know why?

5. And then from the homepage when I click on the forum page, the message in the header states "welcome back sonia, please post to log in". But I just arrived on this page after logging in through the usual wordpress reg/login process. Obviosly any subsequent log ins would not be a problem because I would be using the login provided by simple press forum.   Could you please help me with this double login demands on the user. This seems unprofessional on our part to ask user to log in a second time.

Lastly, could you please tell me how I can turn the cookies off?

Thanks heaps

Sonia.

Let's do cookies first. SP only tracks one user details cookie and that is for 'guest' information - i.e., non-registered users - so we can hopefully identify they have visited before. This can be turned off in the forum admin > options > member settings.

All other cookies that aid user recognition and logging in are core WordPress cookies. Do you know I am not even sure if they can be turned off -  I admit to never looking!

As to the main question let's start with determining if you are using a caching plugin (such as WP Total Cache for example) which can exhibit this sort of behaviour. And if you are then please see this FAQ:

Thanks for your reply. Apologies it took me some time to look into it.

Regarding my questions

4.The user logs in FOR THE FIRST TIME, but the user is redirected to home page even though I have specified in the login redirect option of simplepress to have the user redirected to the forum page. Do you know why?

I have tested this on a clean local wamp installation and the user is NOT redirected to the forum page even though I have specified the correct URL at login redirect in simplepress. As I have now tested this on two different places, it appears that simple press login redirect is not working? Your help would be greatly appreciated. I am not using W3TC, it has been deactivated and and all caches are purged before deactivation.

5. And then from the homepage when I click on the forum page, the message in the header states “welcome back sonia, please post to log in”.

It appears that there is some plugin conflict here. If I deactivate Under construction plugin and wp block admin plugin then the forum page does pick up that I have just logged in, which is good news. But now the problem is If I remove these plugins how do I stop the non admin users to view the dashboard/profile screen in wordpress. What plugin do you guys recommend please? I do not want logged in users to be viewing any dashboard/wordpress profile screen.

Truly appreciate your help

Sonia

The equivalent of the 'Block Admin' plugin is available in the SP forum options > global settings. You can set what you need there.
