Fixing the WP forum page after upgrade - how to fix an empty page?

OK, so this naive SP/WP user was feeling smug, having upgraded from SP4.4 to SP4.5, then to SP5.2.5, all in one 60min sitting, without problems and without help. I even solved a little problem with non-displaying forum posts by resetting the forum permissions.  However, I can't get the forum to appear within the layout from my theme - see http://canterburybeekeepers.or......uk/forum/ - the forum sits above the normal page layout.  The updated forum itself seems to be fully operational, and has even got a couple of approving comments!

I've read that there can be many problems associated with a non-compliant theme, so I activated the "twenty twelve" WP theme, but that has the same problem.  I suspect that the forum WP page itself is the issue - but it is a blank page when I edit in WP.  If I send the WP forum page to trash, and try to create a new blank forum page, I get a new page slug (and page ID, obviously).  Is my diagnosis anywhere close to being likely, and if so, is there a way to generate a new forum page, or otherwise fix the page so that the forum appears within the main block of my webpage?

Alternatively, slap me around the head for being ignorant, but then give me some ideas about what to do next.  I've left the WP forum page permissions unrestricted, so non-members can see the basic problem and troubleshoot.

thanks in advance

try going to forum - integration - page and permalink and have a look at the display options there... play with the display in loop and display multiple options...

hmm.  those options not showing, although from ftp, can see a bunch of files/dirs in the panel-integration folder.  Only can see "Your admin options" in the admin panel.  No obvious problems with file corruption when I open then up.  Any ideas?

are you sure you are an sp admin?  note I said SP admin, not WP admin...  two different things...

no, not on http://ftp... this would be in the wp admin...

if all you can see if you admin options, you are either a moderator or dont have all the sp admin capabilities...  an sp admin with the capabilities can go to forum - admins - manage admins and make more folks sp admins...  by default, at install, the user who installed simple press will be the only sp admin... but they can add more...

on the front end of your forum, in the stats, you can see listed all the sp admins...

I'm confident I am using a SP admin acct - I have 4 admins listed in the SP summary at bottom of forum, and those same 4 cannot be added to the existing user groups (as I think you would expect for admins that are part of every user group).  I've logged in with 2 of those admin accounts, but there is no apparent difference in the admin options available to them.  So, it doesn't quite tally with what you are expecting.  If I have no SP admin capability, I guess I have a significant problem?

As I mentioned in my first post, I did have to reset the forum permissions when I first upgraded to make all the posts display their contained text.  I wonder if there's a problem with the upgrade (? user table corruption) that I didn't immediately recognise?

there was an OR in my statement...  or you dont have all the admin capabilities...  did you try with one of the other admin accounts to add the rest of the admin capabilities to your account on forum - admins - manage admins??

or alternatively, if you have access to your db, you can set them yourself in the user meta...  in the wp_usermeta table (your prefix might be other than wp_), find the usermeta for your user id and the meta name of wp_capabilities...  you will want to set it to:

a:14:{s:13:"administrator";s:1:"1";s:18:"SPF Manage Options";b:1;s:17:"SPF Manage Forums";b:1;s:22:"SPF Manage User Groups";b:1;s:22:"SPF Manage Permissions";b:1;s:21:"SPF Manage Components";b:1;s:16:"SPF Manage Users";b:1;s:17:"SPF Manage Admins";b:1;s:18:"SPF Manage Toolbox";b:1;s:24:"SPF Manage Configuration";s:1:"1";s:19:"SPF Manage Profiles";b:1;s:15:"SPF Manage Tags";b:1;s:17:"SPF Manage Themes";b:1;s:18:"SPF Manage Plugins";b:1;}

please note, check the capabilities before you change it...  if you have another plugin that has added capabilities, you will want to capture those too... these would be ones starting with other than SPF...  in my example, its only the wp administrator capability...

perfect, fixing the wp_capabilities data has revealed a whole load more admin options, and the suggestions you made in your first reply, worked straight away. Job done (for tonight)

thanks for your rapid assistance.
