"Forbidden" error

A number of users (myself included) try to submit posts and get a forbidden error. This seems to happen on longer posts, but not crazy-long. Any idea what could be triggering this?

Thanks!

Not sure we use the term 'forbidden' anywhere... can you give me the exact message text you are seeing?

Occasionally I submit a post and it appears to load, but then I get a completely white screen with one word in the top left, "Forbidden".  It's baffling.

I can then post something else to another thread and have no problems.

I am using a desktop computer, with Firefox but people have problems with other devices as well.  Like this user:

"Got the forbidden msg accessing site fm an Android ph (galaxy s4) using Explorer browser."

Just one word like that? Weird. I assure you that it is not coming from Simple:Press or - for that matter - core WordPress. Actually I am personally not aware of anything that will do that. Some sort of over-zealous security plugin perhaps? You may need to ask your host support team...

I would very much like to know what is causing this when you finally find out...

normally when you get a forbidden message is coming from your web server... and usually there is more info...  like 403 Forbidden (which means you tried to access a directory on server you do not have permission for)...

I have more information.

I had a user getting the forbidden error. I told them to send me what they were trying to post and I would post the text for them, under their name. I was going to replace the complaint they made on the board with what they intended to be posted there.

They sent me their writing.  I tried to post it and I also got the forbidden error.

I decided to post their writing in smaller pieces to try to figure out what was triggering the problem.

I posted the first two graphs – fine.

I posted the second two graphs in a new window – forbidden!

Looking over the text, I noticed the word "spycam".

I turned it into "spy cam" and voila! No more forbidden error.

As I said, this has happened before, but I don't think the spy word was used, so there must be a filter, somewhere?

Does this help you Dx?  I don't have this problem on the blog side.  There is no further info on the forbidden error.

Last, I can recreate the error. The word "spycam" triggers the error, even if it's the only word in the post.

Thanks!

So you have something there that is checking a 'banned words' list and stopping the save/post process from continuing. Again - I assure you that this has nothing to do with SP.

There is a difference between the blog and the forum. The blog is written within the admin side of the website by one or a few, carefully selected people. This assumes they can be trusted. The forum, on the other hand, is on the public facing side of things.

One test you could do would be to have someone write a comment to a blog post that includes the 'banned' word. See if that also is stopped.

But - basically - you need to determine who or what is making these rules about what words that constitute a forbidden status. And perhaps why. Along, of course, with how to remove it or at least adapt it to your needs.

Okay, thanks a million!  "spycam" will not post on the blog side either so thanks for the helpful tip. :)
