Forum caching issue in internet explorer

I noticed a strange issue in Internet explorer (version 11). I use cloudflare for caching, and I excluded the forum from caching. However IE is still showing me a cached version. This does not happen in firefox or chrome. Any idea why IE would display a cached version even if it is excluded from any caching? I don't use any caching plugins.

Even after clearing the cache in cloudflare AND in the browser, the forum still shows a cached page. The only way to get rid of the cached forum page is to use Ccleaner and wipe out everything. I don't understand where that forum caching in IE comes from.

Me neither I'm afraid, but I never use IE for anything other than testing compatibility and have never had an issue with the cache.

Are you running any IE plugins / extensions that might be accounting for what you're seeing other than Cloudfare?

If things are working fine in FF and Chrome it would suggest to me some kind of Cloudfare / IE problem, although I don't know nearly enough about Cloudfare to suggest a fix! If you're 100% sure you're not caching the forum directly, Cloudfare is the only cache so to speak that you have active and it works fine in other browsers I would think you might need to ask their support directly.

@mr-papa might know more and, of course, as a Mac/OSX user I have not had the 'luxury' of Internet Explorer over the years but are we not all glad that it is no more? From what I always understood, IE hangs on to cached items much more than other, decently behaved browsers so perhaps that is all you are seeing.

I also never use IE except for testing. Too much weird stuff happening with it. So maybe I will just tell my customers who download my courses to not use IE.

I hadn't realized that IE is being discontinued.

It's always worth recommending other browsers to people who use IE anyway!

But yes, discontinued to make way for Edge although not sure when that will be if it's not already happened, and there will still be hundreds of thousands of people who still use it and refuse to change so it's still definitely worth testing in!

'Edge' is the new browser risen from the ashes of IE that is bundled with Windows 10.

And Edge appears to be a pretty good browser... Actually tries to own standards now...

All browsers are starting to make cache busting very hard

Must be an IE specific issue. I have pulled my hair out trying to empty any and all cache and still IE showed a cached version. I tried the same thing in Chrome, and it all worked fine.

From what I understand from the responses, IE is harder to work with. So I will recommend to all my customers who have issues while using IE to switch to another browser rather than trying to figure out how to fix the IE browser.

Understood. There again why use old IE when there are just so many better browsers about.
