and that is the site listed in post 1?  quite a bit different looking...

not likely related, but you will have other issues because your site is throwing js errors... and its from the theme improperly loading js:

<script type='text/javascript' src='http://www.biugsa.co.za/wp-content/themes/Arpora2_1_0/assets/js/jquery.1.6.2.js?ver=3.3.1'></script>
<script type='text/javascript' src='http://www.biugsa.co.za/wp-content/themes/Arpora2_1_0/assets/js/jquery.ui.1.8.16.js?ver=3.3.1'></script>

see: http://codex.simple-press.com/.....-conflict/

The links work for me but assume its cause you put default back on...  our of curiosity, if you switch to the default wp theme and then put custom permalinks back on, is there any difference?

The site in the pictures the the hosts default error page, hence the difference.

I have tried swtiching to the default theme - this does not fix the issue... 🙁

Will look into the JS errors in the mean time... thx for all the help!!

When I visited your site the other day I believe there was only 1 page which was the forum.

If you create other pages do they lead to a 404 s well? Or does the 'postname' permalink work with them?

Wouldbe useful to know if this is an SP issue or is, actually, a WP wide issue.

I will test the theory for you, but I do have other WP sites hosted by the same hosting company and I use custom permalinks with no issue.

I will only get to test this tomorrow though, but will reply here as soon as I do.

as you can see from the screeny below, the custom permalink did not work, but, if you look at the second screeny, the permalink setting of "Post Name" did indeed work. Although I have tried Post Name as the permalink setting for Simple Press and this did not work.

Steve (Mr Papa) - did you manage to find time to look at this site? Sent you a PM on it.

assuming its the same link as in post #1:  http://www.biugsa.co.za/ I did look and posted some comments in #11...   but one of my points is the site looks nothing like the images being posted...  and the site works because it has default permalinks every time I look...

and the site does have interesting js in that is has special css for windows clients vs macs...  and js errors to boot... likely not related to permalinks though...

I dont see a pm, but had 300 the other day so pruned away and may be removed it...

one thing I cannot tell if tested, but you have set the forum page as the main page...  it you temp remove that and make it just a normal wp page, does it make a difference?  with other permalinks of course...  wondering if it being set to the main page could be throwing it off...  shouldnt as its long worked that way, but another data point...

ok... tried changing the default homepage page to another page, then also changed the permalink to the custom structure - still no joy. Still the same issue as before.

Mr Papa - as I explained, the site in the pictures is somehow the hosts default error page, hence the difference.

and your .htaccess is now standard wp?   can you update permalinks from the wp - settings - permalinks page with no warnings or errors? basically, making sure permissions are right on that file...

yes... the htaccess file contains only what you asked me to put there.

I can change the permalinks without error.
