I have my forum set to "read only" for guests but posts when I log in as a guest I cannot see the posts (see below). When I click on view forum permissions all my forums are set to read only access for guests and standard access for members. Am I missing something?Screen-Shot-2013-05-22-at-7.37.34-AM.pngImage Enlargerorum set to read only for guests but posts not visible

what do you have set for the 'can view only own posts and admin/mod posts' and 'can view only topics by creator and admins' permissions?

also worth checking the 'can view list of forums and list of topics only' and 'can view list of forums' permissions... seems you are being more limited than just letting guests view forum...

Sorry - can you explain where to find these?

forum - permissions - manage permissions...  it defines what you permissions you have set for for a set of read only...

might be useful to read:

http://codex.simple-press.com/.....ng-access/

to understand how permissions and access work in sp...

OK. I went in this menu when I set the forum up. But I'm not clear on what I need to tick to enable guests to be able to read all posts and topics without being able to comment. The screenshots below shows the current settings - can you tell me what I need to tick toScreen-Shot-2013-05-22-at-11.00.21-AM-1.pngImage EnlargerScreen-Shot-2013-05-22-at-11.00.45-AM-1.pngImage Enlarger?

Thanks

those are only part of the permissions...not all are shown... and oddly, they should not all be under general - there is like 6 or 7 permission categories... and the ones of interest would be under Viewing not General...  but that wont affect how they work, just how grouped and displayed...

what usergroup are you assigning guests to?  that is on forum - usergroups - map users to user groups...

back to post #1 and your question..

I have my forum set to "read only" for guests but posts when I log in as a guest I cannot see the posts

reading that again, I am a bit confused... guests dont log in...  can you clarify what you are doing?

try going to forum - toolbox - housekeeping and resetting the auths cache...

do you have a link?

I enclosed a screenshot in my post above to show you what I was seeing when visiting the forum as a guest - as you can see the contents of the posts are not visible when I visit the forum as a guest.

BUT I have checked this again today, and the posts are now visible at my end....and yet I havent changed anything??

Here is a link to the forum can you tell me what you see at your end: http://www.electricsense.com/forum

Thanks

I have no problem reading posts as a guest...  granted, only looked at 6 or 8 posts, but all showed fine to me... see example below

do all posts react that way for you as guest? maybe an exact link since I tried about 8 and fine...

you didnt answer my last question where you said logged in as guest, which does not make sense since guests dont log in...
