Support Forum
Hi there,
Brand new to simple press and actually have yet to launch the forums live, however we're running into a few issues and not sure what the cause is. Whenever we tried to set up the forum, we attempted to change the url to '/discussion-boards/' and the result would be that clicking any sub-board would lead you to a 404 page not found (replaced with a redirect to our homepage via a lovely plugin). After trying to trouble shoot this with re-installs 4-5 times, we finally stopped trying to re-name the url and discovered that clicking one of the options in the permalink settings section helpedresolve this issue...temporarily.

Only a few hours later it seems as though a sub-board that was working perfectly fine is suddenly is broken again, even though the links are correctly. Any suggestions on how to permanently fix so we can launch this expansion to our site without fear the next day none of the boards will be accessible?!
Thanks in advance!
sorry, on road and no access to my tools... how did you change the page permalink? wp page? afterwards, to be sure, go to forum - integration - page and permalink and click on update the permalink...
if still occurring, any caching plugins? you cannot cache the forum page...

To change the page permalink - clicked 'go to forum,' clicked 'edit page,' changed page 'title' and 'permalink' directly below and updated. then, went into the forum integration panel and updated the 'forum page details' and 'forum permalink' to be accurate. This now is: http://broadwaysbestshows.com/.....ion-board/ (which is the correct permalink).
Under integration options, we have all selected (Filter WP list pages, Load javascript in footer, Force the strict use of the WP API). Under Theme display options, we have not selected any of the options.
We run W3 Total Cache, and I added the following to the 'never cache the following pages:' section:
/discussion-board
/discussion-board/broadway-plays
/discussion-board/broadway-musicals
/discussion-board/gossip
/discussion-board/off-broadway
/sp-resources
After clearing the cache, this seemed to have made no changes at all to the forum's not functioning correctly. I have tried deactivating W3 Total Cache, however the sub-boards still did not work while it was inactive. Any advice where the error is coming from? Again thanks for any suggestions...
Best,
Andy
I am definitely getting cached pages there right now...
did you disable the w3 total cache for ALL types of caching that you were using? I see multiple cache types (page, db, etc) being used...
I know you said you disabled it, but I can see definite cached pages right now... which makes it impossible right now to see what might be going on...
are you running any redirection plugins? or yoast seo plugin?

Through W3 Total Cache, we are using 'Page Cache,' 'Minify,' 'Databse Cache,' 'Object Cache,' and 'Browser Cache.' Under Page Cache and Database Cache we have the following included in the 'Never cache the following pages:'
/discussion-board
/discussion-board/broadway-plays
/discussion-board/broadway-musicals
/discussion-board/gossip
/discussion-board/off-broadway
/sp-resources
The other categories do not list page exclusion fields. We are also running the plugin '404 Redirection.' In trying to pinpoint the problem, de-activating '404 Redirection' makes the blog work correctly! Re-activating the plugin breaks the forum again. I'm not entirely sure if there is a logical explanation for the issues its causing, but we've left it inactive for the time being. So the forum should be functional now...
hmmm... seem to have lost my post by email reply...
we have seen some redirection plugins getting confused by simple press displaying ALL its content on a single wp page... the appearance of many pages in simple press is just url rewrite black magic... and unfortunately some redirection plugins are not sophisticated enough and end up trying to redirect some of those rewrites all over the place...
luckily most of them do include a ignore page or string too for excluding the forum page from redirects...
