Hi All

I have just installed Simple Press to my new site.  Everything went well and I received no error messages.

Now I want to create my first Group but when I click on Forums>Create New Group all I get is the rotating squares and nothing happens.  What have I done wrong?

Probably nothing! It sounds like an AJAX/JavaScript conflict with another plugin. At least that is the most likely. Rare in the admin side of things but sadly not unknown.

Do you know how to use the browser console to look for script errors? If so can you open the console - load the admin menu afresh and then try and open a forum admin option?

Oh and I guess I should have asked if this applies to ALL admin panels or just this one...

All of that went right over my head I am afraid.  I don't have a lot of technical skill, just enough to get into trouble.

This is a clean install, there are no other plug ins installed except what came with the Wordpress installation.  The only missing item is the Forums menu.  When you click on Forums in the wordpress menu, nothing happens in the main frame but the full list of SimplePress options appears.  All the others bring up something in the frame, but none of the options in the SP Forums sub-menu does anything.

How can I find the info you need?

Wow. If there are no other plugins active then that does seem to suggest a corrupted install of some sort. Can you tell me how you installed the plugin? For example - there used to be a major problem with the ftp application FileZilla, which often corrupts uploaded files when the overall size of the files combined is large(ish). But we have not had that reported for a very long time as far as I am aware.

So - how did you install things please?

And I have to ask... sorry! A look in your php error log might show up the problem. That can usually be found as a link from your hosting control panel...

I downloaded the zip file direct from this site, unpacked it to a new directory, then uploaded it to my host iPage using, you guessed it Filezilla!

The first time it left 15 files behind which I requeued and sent again, and they uploaded without error, so it says.

I will try a different FTP client and see if it makes a difference.

Good news!

I tried again using CuteFTP and it worked first time!

Thanks for helping me out, now I can get on with designing the site properly!

Maybe you could consider advising future downloaders of the problems with FileZilla, perhaps on the FAQ pages.
