Where do I ask questions on how to insert translations on glotpress? Thanks
Support Forum
Here I guess although I have not had a lot to do with it myself.
The main problem is that all translations need to be validated by someone with the correct account permissions and validators tend to work on what they want and then disappear. We can, of course, make you a validator should you wish to take it on…
I don’t mind to be a validator, I can certainly try! But still I have an issue that I don’t understand. I explain here… I tried to translate the Birthday plugin, there are 3 entries which are not translated. But I am not sure what do I have to translate for “%plural% for a Birthday” ? Everything including the word in the % ? I cannot even explain myself properly… hope you get it! I expected single words or phrases… not something like that!
Oooh. That’s not very nice is it? And I have no idea quite what it means! The guy who coded that will be around later and I will ask and let you know.
Meanwhile – to make you a validator I will just need to know the account name you used for login to the translation site. Do not need your password.
ok I am in no hurry for that!
Username… ehm… I made 2 because I did not get the confirmation email and thought I would never get it 😀 So Let’s say “Giovanna” will do. And maybe you can delete “GiovannaBuono” 😀
Also: how do I change the password? Thanks!
Account updated for all projects.
I do not really know how you change the password but I will try and find out. To explain, ‘GlotPress’ is not our software. It IS the software that the WordPress dev team use for core translations by their translating community which is why we adopted it. but it just has to be one of the ugliest, UI-unfriendly pieces of software I have seen for a long time.
We keep hearing rumours that it will soon get updated and rebuilt to improve it but nothing ever seems to materialise.
Why am I not surprised?
Anyway, thanks for having updated the account, I guess you made me a validator but I see no change… I wait for further explanation from the guy who coded it. Thanks a lot 😉
The only change would be the option to validate them and approve; the translations.
I have left a message for @mr-papa regarding the odd translation string.
actually @yellow-swordfish should know what they are – he coded them up! 😉
I say they because similar string is in birthdays and answers topic plugins… and both exist because of the MyCred plugin… also used in other MyCred integrations but not translated…
so not sure if either should be translated or not – guessing not, but hate to go in circles, but will have to check with @yellow-swordfish since he is the MyCred guy…
Thank Mr Papa! Well one useful thing came up… I now know how to tag people 😀 Just testing…
@Mr Papa @Yellow Swordfish
Can I do this tagging in my forum too or do I need an extra plugin? Today is the day I dedicate to the plugins… I know I shouldn’t say it here but it’s annoing that the download plugin list is not in alphabetic order as the other list with all the info 😉
Ciao!
edit: my tags don’t work 🙁
Tags? The plugin you need is called ‘Mentions’. Is that the one you say does not work and what do you mean by not work please?
The plugin list was once in alphabetic order but it ends up burying some of the more popular plugins so it is now shown more by popularity and usefulness. We are, however, in the very slow process of redesigning things around here!
As to this ‘plural’ business in the translations, then I don’t recall this at all and Steve did not say what they actually mean – but he has given me a hint where to look so I will dissect it this morning. It does sound though, that if you are not planning to use the WP MyCred plugin then you can leave these strings untranslated.
Tags: I just put the character @and the name… it seems like a little window wants to open but it’s very quick and then disappears! Maybe my computer is very slow, not sure. I will look into the plugin Mention thanks.
ok, if you are going to rebuild the site then I wait! When is that going to happen? How slow? 😀
I am totally lost now as regards to the translation… MyCred? Oh no I am lost now… Maybe I am trying to do too much too soon!
Well the Tags plugin is for tagging posts – usual type ‘tags’ stuff. Mentions is the one that tags a user.
As to when site changes will come – not syre but still a way to go behind the scenes so not quick.
MyCred is a WordPress plugin that awards points to users for various tasks and conditions. Simple:Press supports it with a MyCred Integration plugin and, as Steve said – there is support built in for that integration to a few of our other plugins. That is what the ‘plural’ string is all about although I have not had time to look into it yet this morning. But as that text is only used if you are using the myCred system then you do not need to translate it for your own purposes.
I understand I need Mentions on my forum, I am having issues here trying to tag you or Mr Papa 😀 I put the symbol and then what? I try againg… @yellow-swordfish … it worked 😀 Problem solved!
I thought so…
I am still quite lost but never mind as it’s not applicable to me. In any case as regards as the Birthday plugin I went to glotpress because I wanted to translate the “none” string into something in Italian… look:

(by the way, what is the 39 next to my user name?).
And with this I stop as I am opening too many topics in one post 😀
Gosh – this is embarrassing! Looks like the word ‘None’ has not been formatted for translation. One we missed and oddly not picked up by any other user and I know it is quite a popular plugin. I have opened a bug report and will endeavour to get it fixed up and released as soon as I can…
Back to the %plural% issue. I have to say I do NOT recall it but I now see that this was done because the main WordPress MyCred plugin needs the text sent to it that way. They are essentially log entries. I would just ignore it to be honest.
And finally – the 39 is the count of how many posts you have made to the forums.
