Group Permissions Don't Really Change

First I love this forum plug-in - you've got to have the best plug-in for WordPress!

I set up some groups and forums and for the Guests permission I assigned "No access" and Guests can't see the Group or Forums.

Then I changed the Group Permission to "Read Only" and the Group and Forums still remain hidden to them - I see them as Admin.

If I set up a new Group and Forums with Guest Permission set to "Read Only" Guests see the Groups and Forums.

Maybe this has been reported but when I searched I didn't see this particular problem.

I can delete the Groups and set them up again I guess so I'm not stuck but it will take me most of a day to do this.

My only suggestion is that I'd like to see a way for the form width to be easily changed - it's very skinny but that's just my taste.

Thanks for any help...

When you first set up permissions on a new Group, all NEW Forums within the group inherit those permissions. However if you change them at the Group level only new forums will inherit the changes. To change permissions for existing forums you will need to edit the forum records and change them there.

When you say the width I assume you mean of the forum display. The forum will display in whatever width your WP theme gives it. It is constrained by your theme and the page template your theme is using.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks and I now see my forums.

I am using the 2012 Template that comes with the latest download of WP and I guess they made the center section really skinny.  I might have to select another template.

Thanks again for the great support....

yes. that is a 'on purpose' wp design...  I think it sucks... laugh  they even rejected my ticket to make a single column be a proper single column and use the width there...  really dont see the point of a whole bunch of extra white space on the sides...

luckily fixed with one line of code in child theme...

I had to change themes and went with Weaver 2.2.6 by Bruce Wampler

Hope that works out for you.
I second Steve's opinion on the WP 2010/2011 (and now it sounds like 2012) full page template. A total waste of space and ugly to boot. But as Steve said, they wont listen to reason on that one.

I don't know why the width of the sections of a template are not definable - it's like I get to control 200 other things in the template except that one parameter - the most important.

Oh well, I'm a happy camper now.....

Are you referring to the widths of the various columns? If so then they are all defined in the templates by either pixels or, more usually, by a percentage. If not columns then can you explain further what you mean by 'sections'?

Yes I mean columns and it would be nice to set some parameter, without getting into code, that would set the width of each column - a percentage is probably the best.

The Weaver template lets me set a lot of neat parameters but column width is still missing - oh well...

Ah sorry, I was confused. I thought you were talking about Simple:Press columns/sections.
