Guest Permission Problem

All,

I set up my guest permissions to allow a guest to view the Members Lists on my forum (but not the respective profiles). Unfortunately, when I test it, it only shows the "Admins" member ... none of the other members show up.

I've attached 2 screen shots that show the situation.

My forum URL:

Any help to resolve this issue would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

It is actually because any user that can view the members list is automatically only allowed to see user groups they are a member of and the admins. But I will double check that in the code later on when I can

Hi Andy,

Yes, that appears to be the case ... and may make sense for Guests. Now that I understand the User Groups usage, I went ahead and tested the various user groups. Here's what I discovered:

  • Admins can view Members, Moderators & Admins
  • Members can view Members, Moderators & Admins
  • Guests can only view Moderators & Admins (not Members)
  • Moderators can only view Moderators & Admins (not Members)

On the last two, I can understand the Guest restriction (although I don't like it!) ... but I don't understand the Moderator restriction. I think this issue could be resolved if members could be assigned to more than one User Group ... but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Any further insight into this issue would be much appreciated ... thanks!

Mark

The Moderators does not sound correct but that will depend on the various forum permissions they are assigned.

Leaving that aside for a while, users CAN belong to multiple user groups. Check your setting at user groups > map users...

You can change members list to allow people to view other user groups.

Steve & Andy,

Modifying the spMembersView.php as suggested worked perfectly ... even for Guests!

Thank you for your (very!) quick responses,
Mark

You are welcome... Thanks for the update...

One last quick note, we strongly suggest you use a child theme or custom theme when editing our themes or you will lose your changes on upgrades...
