is it possible for guest posters to get email notifications to replies to the topics they post...???

No, afraid not... that would be a wonderful tool for spammers to use... someone could insert any email address they wanted and have that person received unwanted email... there is no verification method of the email address used by a guest.

is there a way a user can make a post and at the same time it creates an account for them?

or is the only way they have to create an account, and then login to post??

Im just wanting it to be as easy as possible for a user to create a new post

afraid not... they can either post as a guest with no notifications or become a user and be able to subscribe...

you might take a look at using a social media login system too... so users can log in with facebook, twitter or other... there are ones for wp, or the Janrain RPX stuff is built into the forum code on forum - components - login and registration...
