This is probably not a simple press issue but it irritates the heck out of me. Every time I hit a help button on the forum back end I get this message: Sorry but a help file can not be found in your language

What language do they think I want to get the help file in? LOL
Also, where do I set that? I would love to check. For the life of me I can't figure this out.

It checks the language setting in your wp-config.php file - so - what do have set for WP_LANG in there?

It should be right. :-)
This is what I have.

define ('WPLANG', 'en_US');

Thanks

why are you defining it for English? Its the default... so the help will be looking for an admin translation file that matches... which wont exist... have you actually provided a translation file for WP???? with changes?

the proper way for wp to use the default english is:

define ('WPLANG', '');

so unless for some reason you actually provided an English translation file, you should change that in your wp config...

You honestly think I went in and did that!!!! LOL

It happened all by itself during some installation or upgrade. I never make changes unless I'm forced to and someone tells me how. I'm the only administrator too so it must have been language from an earlier version that has stayed with this latest version.

Thanks for the help. I'll make the change and see if this solves the problem. Wish I knew why it good changed to begin with.

Anyway, your code worked perfectly to solve my problem. I changed the wp-config.php and can now see help files perfectly without the accusation that English is not my language. ROFL

Thanks so much.cool

OK - I can't resist it smile

Your language setting of 'en_US' is actually 100% correct but is sadly and incorrectly ignored by most software and especially is incorrectly ignored by WP and most WP plugins. And that is also true of this one much to my annoyance.

The first part of a language code represents the parent language. In this case 'en' - or the designation for English. If, for the country in question, they ARE the parent of the language then no more code is required.

The second part represents the user country if NOT the parent of the language. In this case 'US' - designation of the United States of America.

So - following those rules - the ONLY country that is officially supposed to use a code of 'en' is Great Britain.

The USA SHOULD use 'en_US' and have a translation file available to translate the parent English into the American spellings.

But - truth is - virtually everyone ignores this so, being English as I am, I always have to put up with the American versions of my own words!
