Hi ,
I uploaded , installed and activated the Private messaging plugin. It came up with a number of line errors. I then logged out and tried to log back and keep getting this thrown up. What can I do to restore access? I didnt do a backup just before:(

You will see there it has installed itself into folder called 'private-messaging1' (/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-plugins/private-messaging1/).
That should NOT have the 1 on the end. If you change the folder name then all will be well again.

phew. recovered now. thanks a lot!
When I went back into the SP plugin folder there was a message saying deactivated as it couldnt find the private-messaging1 folder.
I am doing a backup whilst I have access. I don't think I help myself by redirecting to the forum page on login as if there is an issue with it then I am stitching myself up but I want members to go there
Do you think I should reactivate or uninstall, reinstall and activate?

Note the directory its installed in. It should be private-messaging not privaye-messaging-1.
How did upload the plugin?

Hi,
Downloaded the plugin to my laptop. Used plugin uploader from SP Forum page. It uploaded fine , then I activated it and it threw up the same exceptions as in my originating post.
I couldn't access any of the WP pages without these errors popping up

just to add I got this error thrown up when I installed the plugin first time
Unpacking the package...
The package could not be installed. PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature
This is happening each time I use IE8 to download a SP plugin.
With G. Chrome I never get these errors.

IE again, huh... 
we have had a few of those -1 plugin installs using the plugin uploader - which is really just a wp set of functions... we have been unable to duplicate why its happening...
