Support Forum
I recently converted my forum from free-standing bbpress to SP. We migrated all the data and user names and such, but people are apparently able to register names that are already in use.
Example, I have a user, eva, who has posted for years. A new user just registered as "eva". How can I stop this? It's the third time it's happened in two weeks.
Thanks!
Interesting. I will need to run some tests on this but I am guessing that the reason this slipped by the SQL query to ensure uniqueness is that these are, actually, unique. One with an 'E' and one with an 'e'.
Not the desired result but probably the reason. As I say - will need to run some tests.

Thanks. Is there a way to see a list of new users? A chronological list, rather than alphabetical? A way to see users who have registered in the last 2 weeks or so?
This is not the only occurrence and at the moment I can't think of the other doubled names. I was swamped when this happened and sort of went into denial about it.
But I will have to do something because some of these people are well known by the community. If a new user with their name posts, it's going to be beyond nutty!
In our stats, we display the most recent new users... other than that, new users are really the realm of WP... I would check for a WP plugin that might offer that...
WP does not allow users to have the same email address, same display name or same login name... unsure if it checks case or not... in SP, we allow different display names from WP but also check for no duplicates, with exception as Andy said of not case specific...

If you want to extend how the wp registration system works, perhaps you can moderate registrations with a plugin like Theme My Login...
And as Andy mentioned, we have opened a ticket to look at case in display names for Simple Press...
