Interesting. I will need to run some tests on this but I am guessing that the reason this slipped by the SQL query to ensure uniqueness is that these are, actually, unique. One with an ‘E’ and one with an ‘e’.

Thanks. Is there a way to see a list of new users?  A chronological list, rather than alphabetical? A way to see users who have registered in the last 2 weeks or so?

This is not the only occurrence and at the moment I can’t think of the other doubled names. I was swamped when this happened and sort of went into denial about it.

But I will have to do something because some of these people are well known by the community. If a new user with their name posts, it’s going to be beyond nutty!

In our stats, we display the most recent new users… other than that, new users are really the realm of WP…  I would check for a WP plugin that might offer that…

WP does not allow users to have the same email address, same display name or same login name…  unsure if it checks case or not…  in SP, we allow different display names from WP but also check for no duplicates, with exception as Andy said of not case specific…

If you want to extend how the wp registration system works, perhaps  you can moderate registrations with a plugin like Theme My Login…

The number of new members displayed is set in the Forum Admin section > Options >  General Display Settings.  You can set the number of how many new users to show.

Oh man. Now I have THREE evas!

I see that neither of the new Eva’s have actually posted to your forum. Could they be spam registrants? It might explain the duplicate registration a couple of days apart…

We are going to try and resolve this for you for the future but in the meantime are you aware that as the forum administrator you can edit a users display name and change it. Agreed they can change it back again but I would have expected most people to be sympathetic.

If you want to do this just bring up a users SP profile popup and there will be an edit link at the top beside their user name.

As for the new evas, I am aware they have not posted. The real eva has serious health problems and people are worried about her. She’s been away for a month. So if someone named “eva” posts, there will be a huge response and perhaps a misunderstanding.

Is there a way to access a person’s profile pop up before they post?  Not that I think this is a good idea. I not sure how to handle it. Thanks so much for looking for a solution.

change a persons profile popup?? not sure what you mean… do you mean change their profile display name?  you can use the method Andy said as you will get a notification from wp on new users…  and if a user’s display name is changed by them or you, it changes it for all posts they have already made…

If you have not changed the defaults then anywhere you see their display name. Like in the new members list at the bottom of the stats for example.
But failing that – run the members list and find them in there…
