Hi guys,

Is there an option to hide the forum and its contents like reactions, topics etc in the Google search results?

Thanks in advance!

Gosh... I am not sure but I don't think I have been asked that before. It is always the other way around!

And - to be honest - I don't know the answer but I will get some advice here from colleagues who will know and we'll answer later.

depends what you mean... if its a private forum, google wont be able to index the pages since it wont have permission to view it...

however, if its an open forum, ie guests can read it, then google will have access...  in that case, you best bet would be to add a robots.txt file and try to steer bots away from the forum pages...  of course, robots.txt is just a recommendation to bots and they can do what they want, but the nice ones, like google, tend to follow it...

Haha okay.. It is because we are using the Simple-Press forum on a payed membersite.

I will check back later!

Edit: Thanks mr Papa! I was typing my comment at the same time as you were, I will look into it right now.

okay, if the forum is behind a paywall, then google wont have access to the pages.  you may want to make sure your rss feeds are not open.  that is, either disabled for private forums or make sure you have feedkeeys enabled...

Just to be clear: it should be a private forum, but I think I forget to change it to private.

Yes that is correct, when people click on one of the search results they will be redirected to a login page. But I would rather have that Google does not index our forum at all. I am going to see where I can change the forum from Open to Private.

I am not that familiar with RSS feeds.. I will also have a look into that!

got it.  there is no private setting for a forum.  its just determined by the permissions and usergroups you give access to it.  we usually mean a private forum if guests cannot view it and only specific usergroups that you control have access to it...

by default, rss feeds are on... I think feedkeys are too, but worth checking on, I think, forum - options global settings...  feedkeys just require a unique key per user to access the feeds... so guests or bots cannot read them...  optionally, on forum - forums - manage groups and forums, you can turn off the feeds all together...

Okay, this is what I did:

* I set the wordpress page (www.example.com/forum) from public to private. I hope this will stop Google from indexing this part of our site.

* The permission set for guests was already on No Access

* I disabled all RSS feeds in the Global RSS Settings.

Is there a way to check if the RSS feeds are actually hidden or gone now? I never used RSS feeds, is there some sort of website I can use to view the RSS feeds of our website?

I hope this will do :)

None that I know of. They should be fine - but there is no harm in keeping the feedkeys option turned on anyway as a second line of defence.
