Is there a way to hide "Newest Members" list for every user?

certainly...  you need to make a mod to one of the sp theme template files you are using...  go to your sp theme, the template files directory and edit the spFoot.php template file...  that is the template file shown in the footer of all pages...  look for template tags:

        sp_NewMembers('tagClass=spLeft spNewMembers', 'Newest Members: ');

        sp_InsertBreak();

and delete... you should have what you want...

As always, we strongly recommend you create a child theme or make your own theme rather than edit one of ours so you dont lose your changes on an update to the theme...

Thank you for the response.  I'm not comfortable doing that, but I found an alternative.  I set user accounts to display only first name publicly.  That will work for our needs.

Thanks again for your help.

As it turns out, my solution is less than elegant: I can click on the first name and see that person's entire profile.

Can you provide me with a link on creating a Child Theme? DO I do this on the server or from the site?

Thanks again.

so be resources are:

your own theme:  http://codex.simple-press.com/.....g-a-theme/

child theme:  https://simple-press.com/simpl.....ld-themes/

child themes are brand new in 5.5 so still working the codex article...  child theme is best since you get core theme updates, but if not familiar, you might find copying a theme easier...

ask any questions you might have...  we are here...

Sorry about this, but my question has changed a bit.  What is the best way to ensure that one member can't see the last name of another?  I modified the Newest Members by changing how the name is displayed to the public, but if I were to click on that, I'd see their profiles.  So, your first suggestion to remove that section is a good one, but there's still a "Profile" button that allows users to view other members profiles.

What's the best way to ensure that no user can see any other user's profile--especially their last name.

Thanks again.

Well viewing profiles of members is a permission that is granted to your users so - you could turn it off in the permission sets you are using and that will stop members from seeing other members profile popups or details.

That was easy--thank you.  After setting up users public profile to only show first name and then making the Newest Members list not clickable, and changing the Standard permission to not view profiles, I'm good.  Thanks again--I really appreciate your help!  I'm new to both Wordpress and your forum, so your support has been invaluable.
