Hide online status only works part way.

I liked the feature on my old message forum that allowed people to hide whether or not they were online (helpful if you are logged in but have stepped away from the computer, etc.). So I was glad to see this option in Simple:Press. However, it only works halfway. If a user chooses to hide her online status, she does disappear from the list of people currently online, but if you click on a thread she posted, the green "online" icon shows up beneath her Gravatar image.

Is there a way to change this? Not much good hiding online status only part way!

Cheers,

Jennie

can you elaborate?

who sees the green online?  keep in mind that hide online will NOT hide your status from admins...  since admins run the forum, they will always see the online status of folks...

so the question would be, were you looking at this as regular user or admin?

Right. I understand that Admins can always see online status. This is another user. She set her status as offline and was surprised to see that she still had a green icon below her avatar indicating that she was online. Is it the case that only she can see that she's online? The green icon won't show for anyone else? I haven't been able to get two regular users to coordinate with each other to tell what one sees when the other one's status is set to offline.

If only the member herself and admins see the green icon, that's no problem.

Thanks!

Jennie

PS - I completely redesigned my site last week, and now the message forum works BEAUTIFULLY! The old WP theme would not allow it to load across the full width of a page, which made it a pain to navigate. My users are really enjoying it now!

yes, she will see her own online status...  the real test would be to log in as another regular user and see if they see her... they should not...

trust me, understand the coordination issue!! kissrolleyslaughwith Andy in UK and me in US, we do a lot of passing by!... at least BrandonC is near me! ;)

good to hear the 5.x is working well for you!

Okay, we coordinated and did the check. One user was logged in and online, while the other had set her status to "invisible." The first user couldn't see the second in the list of who was online at the bottom of the forum, but when she clicked on the second user's profile, the green dot was there, showing that she was online. Then she checked a thread the other user had posted, and there beneath the user's avatar was the green "online" dot!

I'd say that's something that needs to be changed, as your online status definitely isn't "invisible" if it shows up in your profile or on posts you've made!

Thanks,

Jennie

I will get it double-checked and if we find an issue will get it fixed up in the next update.

can confirm this could be a problem... we have identified the issue and have a fix in place... will get into the next version of simple press... thanks for bringing it to our attention!
