Robert, take a look at the announcements plug-in, it may be what you are looking for

What about the tag plugin…. for tagging other members….It looked complex to install…Is it? OR easy enough?

very easy…  just basic options for things like how to notify (email, notice, pm, etc)…  it just works…

Sorry not sure I understand.. Are you talking about the Tags Plugin? If so that’s not for tagging members, as it describes on the download page it is for tagging topics.

If you’re looking for the option of tagging members such as @robprov then you’ll probably want the Mentions Plugin which as Steve said just works. You can check out the documentation on the Mentions Codex Page.

You’ve called it ‘tags’ which is why I’ve listed both just to check.. Which one do you have?

OK, so assuming you do have the ‘mentions’ plugin, then just activate, type an ‘@’ symbol and start typing a members name to bring up the suggested name list.
