How do I get the integration between SimplPress and Janrain RPXNow

  • I have got my self a RPXNow account. I have also followed the instructions in the RPXNow Dashboard and managed to create the app's in Facebook / Windows Live / Facebook / Twitter etc.
  • I have tested the RPXNow using the JanRain test tool - It showed all six of my authentications seems to be working properly with each one returning me a API response with all the correct fields captured from the respective providers
  • I have gone into SimplePress Administrations and enabled RPX support. I entered the 'RPX API key' correctly and left 'URL to redirect to after RPX login' blank.
  • However,  got the following problems:
  1. The displayed authentication providers seems to default to AOL, Google, Yahoo and Open ID. This is despite the fact that I have used the RPX dashboard to configure the widget so that it had Facebook / Twitter / Windows Live and Google instead. It has been hours since I saved the new layout for the widget but it is not reflecting on the Simplepress registration screen
  2. At the end of Registration (or authentication) with a provider, the site appear to redirect from the provider page to the page http://MySite.rpxnow.com/redirect?loc=Somelongcode and then redirect back to the address http://mydomain?rpx_response=1&goback=MyForumAddress
  3. However, instead of authentication, the site displays the message 'An error has occurred' on the top left hand corner and stays unauthenticated.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to set up some token URL's? Is there a step I missed? What does '"rpx_response=1" mean in the return URL? IS that an error code?'

Before I start digging into the code can you just confirm that you don't also have the WP Janrain plugin installed and active?

Thanks for the prompt response, Andy.

This is a brand new install of WP and SimplePress. The only WP plugin's I have are WP Super Cache (Active with Caching off) and Akismet (installed but not yet activated).

And No, I do not have WP Janrain plugin installed. I do have a few SimplePress Plugins installed, namely Custom Profile Fields, Profile Display Control and Template Tags & Widget.

However, I am new to Wordpress and SimplePress and I might have messed something up in the Janrain Dashboard.

Is it OK if I PM some of the screenshots of my JanRain config and a link to my actual registration page?

Of course you can. But...

Please send PM to both myself and to 'Mr Papa'. Please include in the PM a link to your site, a link to this thread and brief reminder of the problem.

Including Steve (Mr Papa) makes sense because he wrote the code for this and knows it better than I do.

and you configured your janrain dashboard?  to include registering your domain?  the dashboard of janrain is also where you configure which 3rd party logins you want... SP has not interaction in that whatsoever...

is your site using pretty permalinks? or default?

Yes. (See the screendumps I PM'ed).

I am going to try to reset my API key and recreate a new one and attach it to SP config and see if that solves the problem.

I am using Permalink that it defaults to.

OK - I reset the API key using the RPX dashboard - and it made no difference.

The most weird thing is that just after I reset the key, the register screen displayed the old provider list - almost as if though the SimplPrint has got some other API key hard coded?

I have wasted a whole day on this and I am beginning to get frustrated.

The most probable explanation lies on the Janrain side of the equation. After all - SP just displays what Janrain sends along over which we have no control.

Is there any chance you could allow us to take a look at your Janrain account settings. Its the most obvious place to start...

The Janrain provider configuration seems to be working. They give you a test widget which shows all of the providers I have set up correctly. Why is SP sign in / Regtister page not showing the same povider list?

I rather not post screen dumps that shows my private keys and logins on a public forum. Yesterday, I sent a PM (with an attachment showing all the Janrain settings and SP settings to you and Steve). Did you not get it? I willl resend it. please acknowledge receipt.
