I can't fathom out how to add a new topic. I am set up as a moderator and in the dashboard it's set so moderators (see screenshot) can add new topics but there is no button on the front end to add new topics?

have you configured your users into usergroups and then assigned usergroups and permission sets to your forums? perhaps review our controlling access codex articles: https://simple-press.com/docum.....ng-access/

but all that screenshot does is show you have a permission set defined for moderators... you also have to a apply that permission set with a usergoup that has the desired users in it, to a forum...
you add that combination on forum - forums - manage groups and forums... as detailed in the codex I linked to...
for the forum in question, what usergroups and permission sets are applied?
