what? sorry, not following… you can only create a new topic or reply to existing topic… so not sure what you are saying… please clarify…

I could be wrong but I think you need to change a WordPress setting..

Log in as admin, go to main forum page, scroll to bottom and click on Edit

When page opens scroll to Discussion to verify that box to allow comments is NOT checked.

 You may have to verify this for sub forum pages..

Are you saying that new topics are being created instead of replies?

site members are able to post comments below the simple-press forum pages

I think Neto Is correct, with out seeing the forum itself, it sounds like wordpress comments are enabled on the forum page, go to pages, click on quick edit and make sure allow comments is not enabled

I don’t see the word edit where you specified it should be.

you need to disable comments on the page it looks like

You need to go to ‘All Pages’ in the wordpress dashboard area and then go to the page that you have assigned the forum page to.

Then look again at neto’s post. If you can’t see the title ‘Discussion’ under the editor area then you may need to look at the top right  at the tab ‘Screen Options’ and make sure you have the ‘Discussion’ box ticked. Then as neto says go to that and untick comments. Hope this is clearer.

make sure the permissions are correct, go to forum, forums, manage groups and forums, make sure members are assigned standard access, click edit permission to change that, from the last comment on the pic you posted, seems this is the issue, but you should still disable comments on the forum page

made a couple of changes in the WP settings but still have the Leave a Reply box under the forums.  Seems silly that it is there.
