how to disable unread and recently updated topics list beneath the forums?

It seems like moderators do see such a list underneath the forums and it is completely redundant since I have the same information in the sidebar, or at least similar.

How would I remove that feature?

For now I am using display: none to hide it but that is quite clumsy.

remove the function call in the template within your SP theme. spGroupView.php is the template and if you read down the list of functions you will find that near the bottom. The name is obvious.

As always we recommend you make your own theme to avoid losing custom changes via future updates

thanks, that did the trick. I thought there might be an option in the forum GUI to remove it.

BUt that gives me another idea: can I somehow use: sp_RecentPostList('show=10', __sp('Unread and recently updated topics')); in my sidebar? That would come closer to the missing sf_new_post_announce tag 🙂

Well - you can try it of course. But it is not self-updating like annouce was. It also uses the ListView template which might have a problem in a confined space.
