Hi,

I'm using a eMember to control membership levels and have protected the page the forum uses accordingly. Still the forum layout (with the "no-access" messages etc), but also with the statistics can be seen by guests which I don't want.

(see here: http://www.fotocampus.de/club/)

Is there a way to *completely* suppress displaying the forum for guests?

That would really be a task for your membership plugin. As I understand it, using WishList Member - which we utilise on this site - it is possible to set a page not to display to certain groups of users and/or users who are not logged in. I would have expected other membership control plugins to have similar features.

It could be done within SP by adding some checking code to the spHead template but it shouldn't really be necessary.

The page used is protected already and it works with all other pages except the one that displays the forum. I will check with the other guys than. I just thought I might have missed a setting somewhere.

Curious. Perhaps the plugin can not cope with generated content. What is it supposed to do when a protected page is requested? I would have expected a redirect of some sort...?

In my case i have decided to show a message that the content requested is protected, giving the choice to sign up ( actually just as you do). I haven't checked though if it is possible to use redirect for a certain page (like the forum) only.

Heading over ... :)

ha, thanks for your head-up. I was able to lock down a specific page and redirect. Seems as if in the case of SP the membership plugin doesn't consider it as "content".

Problem solved!cool

I can, perhaps, see why they might have a little difficulty perhaps...

Our problem would be that if we offered an option to display absolutely nothing under certain 'conditions' then being able to decipher what, exactly, those conditions would be becomes almost infinite in variety. Everyone would want different criteria to be taken into account.

By the way if, like WishList, your membership plugin exposes an API and there is a function that can be called to test if a page should be shown then that call could be simply added to the top of the spHead theme template....
