Support Forum
I currently have three different sites. fantasy football, fantasy basketball, fantasy baseball. All three have simple press 5.0.3 running.
I'd like to migrate all three forums into one. Including also, doing the same for wordpress and running it as multi-user.
Do you see any performance, or other type issues with doing this. Each of the forums have nearly 300k posts, 38k topics, 12 forums, and 3 groups. Pretty large amount of data i presume.
What's the best way to merge the three?
Do you guys offer consulting services to help with this type of stuff?
Thanks,
Aaron
That's a pretty tall order. This is not just merging forums - this is merging sites. And that would have to include all of the user data as well.
There are quite a few problems that would need resolving amongst which the main ones - off the top of my head - would be handling users who are registered on more than one site but who will undoubtedly have different IDs - which would then mean scanning their posts in all forums to change the user ids. Next up the three different site forums would all be using the same group/forum/topic/post ids as they all started out at 1. So all these would then need to be recreated with unique ids which would then need to ripple from the group record to all the forum, topic and post records.
Subscriptions, watches etc., would all need to be recreated. All images or attachments would need to have their urls changed within posts. All internal links in posts would need to be re-created. Not sure I have even scratched the surface yet!
I am guessing here - finger up in the air stuff - but I would suspect there would be at least a week of special coding and probably longer when you got into it. Another week to two of thorough testing and bug-fixing and checking and re-testing cycles. Maybe when all was working as it should then another day to perform the actual merge of live data - which would need to be done locally.
I think I best let you dwell on all of that first...
