How to set Permissions for a usergroup?

I'm trying to set the permissions (to no access) for all the users in a usergroup, but can't figure out how/where this is done. I've looked through the codex for an answer, but can't make heads or tails of what's written there. Help?

basically, you assign a usergroup and a permission set to a forum...  its on forum - forums - manage groups and forums...  then add permission...
