How to upgrade new version of Simple Press?

Hi!

I currently have the old version of this plugin running on my site. My site is http://adultacnetreatmentreviews.com.

I've already downloaded the zip file of the new version of Simple Press.

Do I need to uninstall the old version and upload the new version? Won't uninstalling the old version remove all my current data on the forum?

I've already got a handful of members joining my forum. Will their data be erased?

Can someone tell me how to do this upgrade clearly and safely.

Thank you.

Regards,

Sunil [Image Can Not Be Found]

do not uninstall - that will remove your data....

you need to delete the current simple-forum directory (and all contents) in the plugin directory... take care to preserve and customizations you might have of files (generally its none)

then upload the new simple-press directory (and all contents) to the plugins directory with ftp client...

activate the plugin in wp... upgrade the plugin...

as always, best to take a db backup before proceeding...

as long as you dont uninstall, you wont lose any data as its stored in database not files...

Hi, I've deleted all the contents under the simple-forum directory via ftp. But much to my horror, I've to upload each and every folder with its contents one by one! There are a lot of files within many folders! How am I going to upload them all via ftp? I'm using filezilla ftp client. I've also tried going through the control panel of my domain by opening the file manager and I have to painfully upload every file one by one! Isn't there any easier way?

Thanks.

Regards,

You upload the 'simple-press' FOLDER itself to the WP plugins folder.
But please do NOT use FileZilla. It has been know to cause all kinds of problems.

Hi! Ok. I'm not using filezilla. I'm using the CPanel of my domain, and then I clicked file manger via ftp account. Then I can see the plugin folders where I need to upload 'simple-forum' folder in the WP plugins folder. However when I clicked upload, it doesn't seem to allow me to upload the entire folder, but to upload every file separately. I don't understand why.

You have any solutions? Right now my forum page on my site is in a mess!!! My site is http://adultacnetreatmentreviews.com. There is a forum page on the top menu. I have members joining in my forum and I have their emails. Can I send each and everyone of them and email suggesting that they need to register in my forum once again? Oh, that is only I have to uninstall the current plugin and reinstall the new version. I know all my data will be erased.

Any other options?cry

Why do you need to uninstall the forum plugin? That will remove all of your data? Just deactivate the old one. Copy the new one (and if this really is V5 then the folder name is 'simple-press' not 'simple-forum') and when uploaded reactivate it and then follow the upgrade instructions.

I would remind you that V5 is currently beta and not recommended for live, production sites. The main reason for using beta software is to help us test it.
