I have done some customization for the theme I am using. Does this mean that I'll not be able to upgrade the theme without losing the customization?

hey mann,

If you have made changes to one of the stock SP themes, then yes - these changes will be lost when updating.

If you've copied one of the stock themes, renamed and made changes, then the theme won't update and instead you will have to add the theme updates manually - as they are listed in a link in the 'Latest News and Development' blog posts regarding updates.

The best way to go would be a child theme, as they only contain your changes and that way the parent theme updates, child theme changes are loaded over the top and you shouldn't have to update anything manually.

How many changes have you made and to what theme?

If you've made quite a few changes and they are scattered, it might be best to make a copy of your theme and rename it, re-download and compare the changes using an editor. You should be able to then copy your changes to a child theme.

Hope this helps!
