Support Forum
Every week I write a roundup of the latest topics that have been discussed on my Simple Press forum and post it as a separate post on my home page. The Roundup includes hyperlinks to topics with recent posts on the Forum.
One a week my newsletter plugin (MailPoet) does a sweep of all my new posts, (including the roundup) and sends the resulting newsletter to my registered users.
If they are on a desktop computer browser, they can click on the hyperlink in the newsletter that takes them to the Roundup post on my website. From there they can click on the hyperlinks in the Roundup and they go straight to the relevant Forum post.
However, users on smartphones and some tablets are reporting that while they can follow the hyperlink to the Roundup, the lower level links to the Forum just loop back to the same page.
MailPoet support says they have never heard of this (maybe no one has tried it before) and have no idea what is happening.
I suspect that perhaps the hyperlinks to the topics are too long for non-desktop devices ... but I am just guessing.
Is that likely to be the case (my users write long, long topic headings which then become part of the URL)?
If that is the case, is there anything I can do about it?
The website is http://www.flat-chat.com.au and you will find a couple of Roundup posts on the home page.
Thanks
Odd one!
The first thing to say is that the links in the roundup blog post to the forum topics are absolutely fine and correct. And yes - I can see that those links redirect to your home page - mobile fashion.
So this might be a matter of elimination as I do not know what else you have installed and the nature of your website. but I think we should start with the WordPress theme.
I am firstly curious as to why the mobile site menu is different from the desktop site menu. For example - there is no menu item to the forum on the mobile side. Is this down to an option within the WP theme that excludes some aspects of your website and this redirects away if a url is called that utilises those excluded pages?

Didn't get as far as the Theme developer - found a stray plugin, WPTouch, which converts non-responsive themes to a more smartphone/tablet friendly format.
I deactivated WPTouch that as the basic theme is already responsive and, while I was at it, I opted for The Simple Press 'Reboot' theme for phones and tablets.
Everything now seems to be working fine (fingers crossed).
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction
