I upgraded my simple:press installation successfully.  When I go to the forum i get the message

"The requested group does not exist or you do not have permission to view it"

where the forums should show up. I am logged in as admin and there are one forum group and one forum which were created in the previous version.

I have tried to work my way through the settings with no success.

What am I missing?

I found an answer to my own question:

Why this was necessary is not clear to me but here is what I did:

1. I did a reset on the Permission

2. I checked that the permission sets was alright.

3. Lastly I added added the group permissions to my forum groups. After that I could access my forums as usual.

Thank you!

Apologies for that. A small group of users had a problem with permissions being scrambled on the update and look as we might we never could explain it, replicate it or fix it. And it was a small number.

Again - sorry you fell into that group but it sounds like ot wasn't too much of a pain to get it sorted which is something...

Thanks, no problem!

I find using forums like this often is self-therapeutic.

Things seems to fall in to place once you try to explain your problem to someone else...

Thank you a very nice forum plugin!

Glad you like it.

I know that epiphany moment. Usually for me it is suddenly realising how to fix a bug just as I am telling someone it can't be fixed!

I'm having this same problem. I corrected it by re-assigning some groups but now certain posts are being filtered. (As an a moderator, I can only see my own posts. As a regular member, I can only see moderator posts and my own posts. There is a big blank space for others' posts.) I also cannot edit the permissions set - only the name and description, not the individual permissions. I think I was able to do this in 4.5???

I'm a bit fearful of resetting the permissions as it says this will "delete all roles" and that you will have to give your users access to the forums again. I'm not sure what a role is - is it a user group? Or how to give users access again.  And what settings I will need to recreate once I do this.

Would it be possible to get some guidance here? Thanks so much.

I went ahead and bit the bullet - it looks like it saved my user groups and I only had to reassign permissions to each of my forum groups. Whew.

Again out sincerest apologies.
You know we even had a couple of user databases (pre-upgrade backups) to test with and of course, when we tried the upgrade it just all worked!
