I can't see any topics or posts after updating. My database is intact, plenty of records in sftopics table.

They just do not show in browser when logged in.

Nor can I post and create a new topic, which leads me to believe that this may be a permissions issue.

Upon reviewing my permissions, it appears that I have none. Humm...

I have mapping settings for all wp subscribers to be SP "Members", as there are 223 members in this group.

I am a part of this group that has standard permissions, but when I go to Profile/Permissions, I get "Access denied"

AH... is this an upgrade from a pre-V5 version? If so we have had a small handful of users whose permissions got scrambled - something we have been unable to replicate I am afraid even when an affected user gave us a backup of their pre-upgraded database to try it with. very sorry of this has also happened to you.

Are you permissions complex? They can be fixed manually but the safest and simplest method is to use the permission Reset option on the admin menu but this means that the user-group/permission assignments have to be re-applied to your forum records as these will be reset also - plus the permissions will be reset to their original defaults.

Let me know which way you prefer to go and if, indeed, this is the root of the problem.

This is an update from 4.4.5.

The permissions are not complex. We could put all subscribers on "Standard", allowing create and replys to topics.

And then put all admins on the top level ... is this what you are thinking?

Please give me detailed instructions.

Yes indeed. But note that Admins do not belong to a user group and automatically have all permissions anyway. So you are really only talking about your members (and guests if you allow them). So yes - the reset is probably the best option. Should only take a few minutes to reassign permissions in your forums. Just the nuisance factor

Done ...

Works now ... thanks.

Also, is there anyway to nest the forum in between short codes on the page?

I have it on a member site and want to show it only to members.

no, not really...  what membership plugin are you using?  why cant it just protect the page?  why does it need a shortcode? odd...  any membership plugin I have seen can protect pages and doesnt require a shortcode... they normally just use the shortcode to protect only part of content on a page - not the whole page...

also, you can use the built in forum permissions to control access to your forum...
