Please have a look at the below url and click on any of the thumbnails:
http://www.ethericwarriors.com.....ences/4673
There's a gray cross hatching over the image itself, rather than just the background being obscured and the image clear and accessible which is how it behaves with members logged in. This looks like a javascript problem...
As it stands now you have to click back on the browser controls as you can't do anything at all on that page if you clicked on a thumbnail as an anonymous user/guest.
The thing is that we have a cadre of members who were made members, and allowed to post, by invitation only. I need anonymous users (guests) to be able to view a set of forums but not be able to do anything else. I have them set with the read-only permission and everything works fine except for these images.
Thanks

so what version of simple press is that? and are you using your own custom theme? if so, did you ever incorporate the required css changes for the WP jquery ui changes?
if not, please see: http://codex.simple-press.com/.....tes-5-3-0/ in particular the section about popup dialogs...

In my case, I had to remove/comment out the line:
z-index: 1;
on line 1678 of default.php. It was already in the file, but I had to remove it to make this work correctly (or mostly correct). If I left in the zindex: 1 the image would come up, but it would still be embedded in the darkened background, and you couldn't delete the popup window.
I did commented out the php in the two entries for background-image. Though with the z-index: 1 in 1679, it worked with the "crosshatch" background image regardless. I like it better commented out, so I left it as suggested. My file did have the !important directive already. I only commented out the php in both cases.
All the rest of the changes had already been applied.
One interesting feature. On chrome it works perfectly (except for the little x being missing from the popup window. If you click on the square it kills the window fine. But there's no x displayed) well. However, on both opera and firefox, if you try to move the windows (which you can in Chrome) the pop up window moves down the scroll, and out of site. If you scroll down you will find the window and you can then close it. If you move it again, it will move further down... and further down.. etc.
Quite odd, but I am satisfied that at least my guest users can see the images, and close them, correctly.
Thanks again

Odd that in your case you should have to remove it. Can I assume that you are also using the latest version of WordPress itself as these changes were originally applied to support changes to WP.
Also - if you have any other from of image 'lightbox' type plugin active it might help diagnostics if you could briefly deactivate that to see if the problem goes away.
On the issue of the 'jumping' popup window could you possibly try something for me? Would you be willing to add:
html, body {position: relative}
to either your WP theme CSS file or the Simple:Press theme CSS to see if this resolves the issue?

Yes, I will try the setting you suggest. In the afternoon. I am living on "vampire time" right now, lol. As to the WP Version, I am still on 3.7.1. I was waiting a few weeks for any problems to shake out, and to allow plugins to catch up. I do have Nextgen gallery. That may be the issue. I upgraded to their latest. I will try deactivating it and testing again. Then a good db and content backup and upgrade to 3.8.
Thanks again.

are you running sp 5.4? it clearly said wp 3.8 was required before upgrading... and oddly you should be getting a message about that then... and might have some oddities in the admin in on old wp...

I have upgraded to 3.8. Then reinstated the z-index: 1; directive as per the link above. I deactivated nextgen-gallery. I also tried again with all minification (via W3 Total Cache) deactivated (I was using manual with only a few of the minifaction features as auto broke my site). The result is that under those conditions, with either a guest user or a logged out member, the popup image window is again in-accessible and part of the "darkened" background where I have to click back on the browser controls to regain access to the site. After reverting to commenting out z-index: 1 I again regain control of the pop-up window albeit without the x (to exit) though clicking on the box where the x would be does quit the window correctly. This is tested under Chrome and Firefox on Linux.

Find this interesting. Seems like it just be wp theme related. Have we asked you to switch to default WP theme to see how that works?
None the less, glad it's basically working. Have you given a link to example.? Sorry answering from phone... Could examine the close for fix too...
