Insert/embed images with a link to the image file hosted on a server. A user also had issues with uploading a file but it's mainly the embedding of images I'm concerned, those don't enlarge.

well, you still have 2 or 3 jquery errors per page load... these really need to be dealt with...
and jquery is still being loaded form googleapis instead of the native wp verison... this is a recipe for problems...
also, not sure if a problem but js and images are being served from a CDN... though it looks like most SP js/css are coming locally...
leaving that aside, links are still getting corrupted... a couple of thoughts or ideas there...
I am wondering if it could be related to something in the German language not handled properly (though would think it would have occurred before now)...
As a quick test, can you set the forum language back to English and see if still a problem? probably easiest just to comment out the language statement in your wp config...
also, another quick test we can try if you want before the language test... in you sp-config.php, file add
define('SP_TOOLTIPS', false);
and lets see if tooltip interaction...

Thanks for looking more into this.
Tried both changes to the config file and even deactivated the plugin calling the googleapi jquery. Still couldn't enlarge the new file you created.
One thought here, could this be a file permissions issue? I've been having problems with that lately. Although we're not talking about files being uploaded to my server I guess...Just a thought.

and you did a new post then? vs looking at old one? note, there was two different config files there.... disabling german ws in your wp config... and you verified the entire forum was in english for your test? the second change with vtip, was in the sp config file... in the sp plugin root - though it might work in wp...
then there is something less corrupting your links... we need to figure out how to resolve that...

I just did it again. modified both config files, changed theme to twenty11, turned off most plugins including anything that would change a link. Then I added new images to a post, same result.

what does most plugins mean???
about the only option left to figure out what on your server is corrupting links is to try to debug on the actual server... would need ftp access for that.. and would want to try it, if possible with those plugins off and the default wp theme...
