Importing from Vanilla

I am moving a 4,000 member Vanilla forum to Simple Press.  Anyone have a clue if I can import the posting data?  Users are already moved, but there's thousands of posts.

no, our importer does not work currently from vanilla... I dont think anyone has ever given us a db copy to play with... one potential problem is that we need to associate vanilla users with wp users - typically as new users... might be hard to take a user id from vanilla and know which wp user it is if you have already moved them over unless the user ids all match...

The user ID's all match because we built a plugin that matches them.  I can certainly send a database copy if that helps as well I would be willing to pay someone to transfer it or write a plug in - or just handle it on my server as a one time deal if anyone's interested.  It would sure take a load off my plate.  laugh

Andy has done the importer work, but if you email the db to support at simple-press dot com, we can take a look and see if we can support it...

Actually I have looked at Vanilla before with a view to creating an import script and it has a very idiosyncratic, unique and odd structure that puts it beyond our current importing engine.

There is a company out there that, I believe, can do it for a surprisingly reasonable fee and have worked with both Vanilla and Simple:Press databases before... I will try and find out their name and website address again as first thuing this morning it eludes me.. smile

Thanks so much for this.  I will contact them to see if they can help.  Looks like maybe $100 will do the job.  That'd be fantastic.  I do note they are closed for the holidays.
