Okay, so I'm going into the mySQL panel and setting both databases to be using the same user.  Should that do it?  What's the best way to wipe out the improperly imported data before I retry?

I am honestly not sure as I do not know what is causing the issue - I was just suggesting you try it. Use the same credentials as the WP config.

'Uninstall' SP and the re-install it. Uninstall will remove all of he current data

What does user "root" mean anyway?  I don't have a user named root.

So let's get this right... you are using the user-name of 'root' for database access and this is what is in the wp-config.php file?

You can see in those messages that access is being denied to user 'root'. 'Root' is generally the name given to the overall 'master' of the database when it is first created. It shouldn't really be used for everyday access.

No, what I said was I DON'T have a user named root.  I was asking, why is it looking for one?

I got this back from my host:

Hello,

Is there a way to change the user this plugin uses for MySQL usage? The root account is generally locked out of security reasons.

Standing by,

I've asked him if there's a way they can unlock the root for a little bit.  Is this likely the problem?

you have really confused me now...  earlier I asked if both of these db were on localhost and you said yes...  that would mean that they were running locally on your computer with your own web server... not hosted on live internet site...  so why would you be talking to your host???

so back to the original question, are both databases hosted on the same server?

have you filled in the db user info for both vbulletin and simple press??  we do not pick the db user (ie root), you do in the options...  it cannot be blank...  you should get the db user, db name and db pw from your wp or vbulleting config files...

A servername of "localhost" is very commonly used by hosts, including the one I use now.  Here's a line from my vbulletin config:  "$config['MasterServer']['servername'] = 'localhost';" that installation has never run on anything but a live host.

As I said, both databases are on the same server, presently they're both also using the same user/pw.  I have not seen any options that allow me to choose anything concerning Simple Press or the WordPress install.  Here is what is presented when I choose the vbulletin import:

Those are the only choices I have, no options to fill in regarding Simple:Press or my WordPress database.  If there's something I'm to do before I run the import, then that's what's missing.

It is appearing that the problem is that my host locks down the 'root' user.  I'm waiting for a reply from him if it might be possible to unlock it briefly.   Could that be the solution, and if he can't unlock it, is there another workaround?

I just heard back from the host.  They can't unlock the root user, even briefly.
