I am using Wordpress 3.3.2 and Simple Press 5.1.1
I have unchecked the 'include page name in page/browser title' button but i still get Topic name | Page name in the title and page title. What I want is just topic name except when viewing the forum home page.
Am I missing something or is there a bug?
could you be more specific? title? are you talking about the browser title, the html head title? or just a page title output by your theme?
but I suspect the changes you want would be made on forum - components - seo...

I am referring to the page title output by the theme which is Topic Title | Forum Title it also appears in the html page title which is too long for good SEO. I just want the Topic Title
I have tried all combinations in componants seo the only thing that works is the 'Overwrite the page/browser title with ours' option. I just get the topic title but it wipes out the Wordpress page title on the forum home page and in the title tag.
What i would like is just the topic title when viewing the topic and the page title when viewing the forum home page, however, i cannot find a way of doing this.
I take your point that componants seo should make the changes.
The include forum name in page/browser option works in that you can turn it on and off.
But the 'include page name in page/browser' which i assume is the option to solve this problem makes no difference you cannot turn it off even when it is unselected. It could be the option is not working
The 'topic title' | 'forum name' still appears in the topic theme title and the in the html title tag
Hope this helps

Ii cannot get rid of the Wordpress PAGE TITLE from the Topic Title
Thwere is no option to do this unless i delete the Wordpress page title which leaves the wordpress page untitled which is not good seo
As far as I can see we don't actually offer the specific combination that you want to achieve - unless I am missin gthe point here.
As far as the WP Page title goes - do you perhaps have another SEO plugin that is overriding the Sp settings and forcing the page title to appear?

I have deactivated Headspace and turned off the cache but it makes no difference. No post or page displays 'post/page title | blog title' in the title tag in the header except SP.
If i click to incude 'Include forum name in page/browser title' as an seo option it inserts the page title twice so Iget 'topic title | page title | page title' in the page view title and the html title tag.
I can only conclude that SP is adding the page title to the topic title by default and the 'Include forum name in page/browser title' is simply an option to add another page title.
Assuming this is the case how can I prevent SP from adding the page title by default so the 'Include forum name in page/browser title' seo option works just once which would solve the promblem.

it's probably me but I keep reading this over and over and I am still not 100% sure of that you are trying to do.
Is the bottom line that you are saying that SP displays the page title in the page header regardless of the SEO settings in SP components? Or it displays it twice?
if you tell me - simply - what you want to end up with I can set that up in my test site and deternine whether there is any issue with SP.

Re: Is the bottom line that you are saying that SP displays the page title in the page header regardless of the SEO settings in SP components? Or it displays it twice?
1. YES - SP displays the page title in the page header regardless of the SEO settings
2. Or it displays it twice? Only when you select 'Include page name in page/browser title' because it is already being displayed when it should not be displayd at all!
No we dont... at least I cannot duplicate it...
I suspect its your theme... some themes can do things that there is nothing we can do about... lets take twenty eleven, for example... here is how it does the title tags...
<title><?php /* * Print the <title> tag based on what is being viewed. */ global $page, $paged; wp_title( '|', true, 'right' ); // Add the blog name. bloginfo( 'name' ); // Add the blog description for the home/front page. $site_description = get_bloginfo( 'description', 'display' ); if ( $site_description && ( is_home() || is_front_page() ) ) echo " | $site_description"; // Add a page number if necessary: if ( $paged >= 2 || $page >= 2 ) echo ' | ' . sprintf( __( 'Page %s', 'twentyeleven' ), max( $paged, $page ) ); ?></title>
note how it hard codes stuff into the title tags rather than just use the wp_title() function/api... thus, we CANNOT affect that... we can only hook into the wp_title() activity... no matter what you do for our options it will include the blog name in the title...
so can you look at what your wp theme is doing for the title within the head tags?
