Inconsistent issues with Admin Postbag

Hi-

We are experiencing some intermittent issues with the Admin Postbag.  When one of our Admins is replying to a new post, she clicks the "Mark as Read and Quick Reply" button, then composes a reply and hits "Save New Post," the reply is not always showing up in the forum thread topic.

This is a new issue and one we've never seen before.  Do you have any ideas as to what might be happening?

The confusing thing is that it doesn't happen with every reply post, but it's happened multiple times in the last two days.

The only change I've made recently to the SP files is to update the Subscription plug-in, and I think that was on Monday.  Around the same time this problem first happened.

Thanks!
Samantha

Hey Samantha,

First thing to check - Although you've said you have updated the Subscriptions plugin, have you also done the other SP plugins, SP core, SP themes and of course WP and WP themes / plugins?

Also just to add this has only ever turned up once in the past from memory and it was most likely down to the browser used and add block plugin(s) (although the user never got back to us to let us know it was working). Might be worth making sure your browser is up to date along with all it's extensions. To check you will most likely see errors in the browser console when posting replies using the postbag if this is the case..

Hi Ike,

Yep, everything is up to date.  I am pretty good about keeping all my plug-ins and WP files current, but I did double check and everything looks good.  I'm using SP version 5.5.8.

I will forward on your comments about the browser to my Admin user and see what she says.  The weird thing is that it only happens some of the time, if it was a browser problem, wouldn't she see the issue on all posts using the Admin reply option?  For example, it happened earlier today, so we did a Skype screen share so I could see what was happening.  I created a test message with a regular user account, and the Quick Reply option worked and the message was saved correctly.

When you say we'd see errors in the browser console, is this different from the primary browser window?  Perhaps, if she's using Safari, I need her to turn on Developer tools and check that Error Console?  I'll suggest that to her, also.

Thanks!
Samantha

Hi again,

What do you mean by:  and add block plugin(s) ?

And if my Admin user had something like this installed, wouldn't it affect every post?

Thanks!

Unfortunately I don't know! It's a topic I've only dealt with once and as I said the user never came back to us with a conclusion.. I always like to think that means the problem was resolved but you never know.

The console can be found in all browsers, for example in Firefox it can be accessed through the 'Tools > Web Developer' options or via the inspector. In Safari yes it would be the developer tools console. The reason I ask is because the user who had a similar problem before was getting a strange error in their console and after a quick Google it seemed it was related to an add blocker extension, but that was as far as we got.
