I had an old version of Simple:Press (4.4.5) and now I want the latest version. I deactivated Simple:Press, uninstalled and then uploaded the zipped file via Plugins/Add New. Clicking on the Activate Plugin gave me a screen that said "The plugin does not have a valid header" so I went to the Plugin paqe and activated from there. I was asked if I wanted to upgrade so I selected that (even though the instructions indicated to not upgrade, but to do a fresh install). Since I had deleted the plugin, I assumed Simple:Press knew what it was doing.

I went to "Forums" on the left side and saw that the previous Group and Forums from the first install were there, so I thought all was good. I added the Forums page to the menu, but when clicking on it, it said the Group could not be found.

I went to ftp and removed the simple press folder and tried again. Deleted the Forums page that may or may not have been created by installing/activating Simple:Press. Seems like I read that installing Simple:Press creates a page named Forums.

I then deactivated, deleted the Simple:Press plugin, went to ftp and removed the Simple:Press folder in plugins, but I noticed there are several folders in wp-content that I think are related to Simple:Press - forum-avatars, forum-smileys, etc - am I right?

I am beyond frustrated. I don't need to keep any old data since the forum was never really used and has been deactivated for some time. I just want to do a fresh install and move forward. How do I accomplish this?

to uninstall simple press you need to use the uninstaller.. just removing files wont do it as the db data remains...

best thing to do is get back to a working state.. whether 4.4.5 or or 5.2.6...  working state meaning where you can access the forum admin panels.. then go to forum - toolbox - uninstall...  and check the box to uninstall the forum...  the go to wp plugins page and deactivate simple press and it will uninstall...

then remove the old version (the dir name and structure is completely different) and upload the new version... install...

if you had both 4.4.5 and 5.2.6 on your system that would cause issues too...

if you cannot get to working state, we can walk you through the db to manually delete the entries...

How do I go about getting back to a working state?

I was able to access the forum admin panel and uninstalled, though it didn't seem to do much...said Options Updated.

Deactivated, deleted the plugin, reinstalled latest version, still have the same groups and forums showing, so the data obviously didn't get deleted.

Manually deleted all the forum-"whatsoevers" in wp-content and sp-resources.

Reinstalled Simple:Press. STILL showing the Groups and Forums created earlier. Seems to me that it should be totally gone.

Now I get the following message when I click on the Forums tab on the website:

[spGroupView.php] - Template File Not Found

Sorry, but the required template file could not be found or could not be opened.
This can be caused by a missing/corrupt theme or theme file. Please check the Simple:Press Theme List admin panel and make sure a valid theme is selected. Or please check the location of the selected theme on your server and make sure the theme and the required template file exist.

AND when I check integration EVERYTHING is red x'd.

first I asked if it was... can you get to the forum admin panels?? if not, can you revert to 4.5? do you still have both simple-forum and simple-press on your server in the plugins folder?

Yes, I can get to the forum admin panel.

I deleted the simple-forum folder on my server, in the plugin folder

so please try the requested steps... go to forum - toolbox - uninstall and check the radio button to remove and click on uninstall... then following the instructions, go to wp plugins and deactivate simple press...

that will uninstall it as requested... upload 5.2.6.. activate and you will start a fresh installation...

I didn't realize I had to click on the globe (radio button). I had just clicked the uninstall button earlier. So now it indicated that it would be uninstalled when I clicked deactivate the plugin.

Next step: Do I need to remove the simple press folder on the server?

What about the sp-plugin-script-header.js and sp-plugin-styles-all.css files showing in wp-content?

is the simple press 5.2.6?  you do not need to remove that...  you can remove the files in wp-content but not necessary...   they are actually missing from the uninstall to remove but we have already fixed that in the next version...

then deactivate the plugin if you have not... and when you reactivate it, you will be asked to do a fresh install...
