Hi I have just installed SimplePress and can see where to go afterwards. When I look at my dashboard sidebar I have the new options, Forum> Admin> and then options for notifications, after this I'm stuck. I'v looking through the set up notes, the FAQ and the forum but don't see anything to help me? When I look at the forum page I see my profile and options to start topics which tell me I have no groups set up but then I have no option to set up groups?

Am I missing something? Did I do something wrong? Any help would be appreciated, Thank you.

Are you logged in as the same user that performed the installation? If not then that is the issue as SP makes the installer the first admin.
If you are the same user then it looks like SP was unable to update your WordPress capabilities which - I have to say - has never been reported before and comes as a bit of a surprise. But then odd things do happen from time to time.

Let me know which it is - we can repair missing caps although currently it does require a direct database edit if that is possible.

Thank's for getting back to me,

I performed the install through my own profile which is the sites main admin.

Well I know this is going to sound trite and the sort of thing support people often fob you off with but this genuinely is unusual and possibly the first time I have encountered the caps not being constructed. The concern there, of course, is whether there is something in your environment that blocked them from being written that might have other unwanted side effects. Of that we can only wait and see...

Are you able to make direct database table edits? If so I can give you instructions. What you need is to look at the WordPress Usermeta table and fund the row that has your User ID and the meta_key that equates to a construct if your table prefix the word 'capabilities'. We need to know what is in the meta_value for that entry and that is what we need to change.

Is that going to be possible?

Well I've not done anything like that before but I'll give it a go.

It always sounds a lot worse than it really is - believe me. And phpMyAdmin - which I assume is the tool you have available - is really pretty easy to use if a bit idiosyncratic some of the time.

I shall await your result....
