I know you said at the top that see a lag for all users bit can you confirm that is definitely the case. is there no difference between an SP Admin and an ordinary member?
Hello Andy,
yup - massive lagging as soon as logged in, even with a completely fresh user account; doesn't change noticeably from being logged in as admin. Lightning fast when visiting as guest. We're just doing an alternate WP / SP install...
oh, btw; administering the database from mysql - admin is completely okay; fast reaction time so far.
Wow - so I am only seeing it as a guest but I am pretty amazed at how fast it loads with 297 forums to check!
The main difference between a Guest and a Member when loading is probably going to be down to checking and building the new/unread post lists for that user. If, when you first log in and load a page and then immediately load a different page (quickly) does the second page load noticeably faster?

Those forums are loaded up too, more content than i ever had on one of mine.
Looks like 19 users online now. Is your site locked down to keep the spam bots at bay? Those parasites will suck your resources up something fierce. I use this: http://wordpress.org/extend/pl.....-behavior/ It has blocked 4581 access attempts in the last 7 days. on FidoSysop.org
I think it's possible you have a slew of spam bots trying to register on your forums, could explain the lag time i would think. On top of that if your using Akismet it's using a lot of resources keeping these parasites at bay.

Just tried that out - no, there's no real difference in speed; at least to my eye. Once logged in; everything loads desperately slow.

The userbase is composed of a peculiar bunch of hobbyists. No; Akismet is taken out.
I just logged in again. It redirects to the news section upon login. Clicking the forum tab it just sat there for several seconds before even building a browser scroll bar. Definitely a problem there.
Here's a screen grab.

happy to reply: it's 5.1.3 / build 8972. On a sidenote: we just saw that the sfmembers table amounts to a size of almost 35mb (with an overhaed of 21mb)! Is that normal?
Er. No. I wouldn't think so! Not for your membership size.
You should have one row for every member. In fact - it should have the same row count as the WP users table. That alone could account for your issues as the sfmembers table will not be accessed for a guest of course. nd any overhead needs to be dealt with.
So - what is the row count of both tables? Any idea what might be wrong as this is not something we have encountered before to my knowledge...

361 rows on both counts - wp_users and wp_sfmembers. On a database test installation (same server, other db); reducing the member count to 1 (deleting the 360 others) did nothing for the load time, the imported content stayed the same.
On another note: The previous server was taken out of action by attacks; we had some serious problems with modified .htaccess files that were replicated by some weird script. WP didn't seem to be directly affected though.
Weird, really. To make things easier - if you would be so kind to take a direct look; would you prefer the account data for the mySQL - Database (partly german) or the whole shebang in exported form?

I'm thinking Spambot Registrations!
In Wordpress > Users > How many registered but unverified users do you have.
