Large number of concurrent connections - suspect SP but???

Hi my website is on a shared server. The server firewall rules are set to block IPs that exceed 300 concurrent connections. As 99% of the traffic on the site uses the forum I suspect the forum.

We are using WP 3.5 and SP Version 5.0.5 which I know is out of date. I have so little time I have not upgraded.

So the question is how can I prove where these concurrent connections are coming from and how can I put a stop to it?

I would be grateful for any help at all.

it should be pretty easy to see where the connections are coming from using your server control panel... I am not sure how you would be getting 300 from the forum... I nominally see only a couple at most...

so you can upgrade wp, but not sp, eh?
