Thanks Steve. I was just about to reply. Unfortunately, that didn't work.

I've set up a basic test install (just WP and SP) and opened it to guest posting, and I'll try and get a few friends from around the world to test it. I'd appreciate it if anyone here could also give it a go for me.

If it posst okay, I'll know because I'll see the post, If it doesn't, can you please let me know, either here or there.

I want to eliminate all doubt that it's something to do with my computer or ISP. I need multiple tests because it does occasionally work for me.

And I've had one friend report back the same thing. I think that means I can eliminate my computer and ISP and concentrate at the other end.

Actually, I just remembered I have some web space with my ISP. They probably don't have php or DB, but I'll look into it.

I've been unable to get it to fail for the last 15 minutes, but it just started failing again. I noticed that while it was working, the file itself would take a few seconds to start downloading if I clicked in the link. Makes me think that whatever is trying to access the link gives up pretty quickly if it can't find it.

Since I have a localhost version running on xampp I'm hoping to work out how to do some debugging with xdebug. Might take me a while...

Good luck. Debugging php leaves a lot to be desired! Would be interested to know how you get on with that as well actually.

Well, I must have got it installed properly since it already gives me a bit more information. It will take me a while to understand it though.

Same result with the Auto Embed switched off so I guess oembed is not that.
