Login upon registration: directs to wordpress profile page/dashboard?

When a new member registers, upon login, memebers are directed to the word press user profile page.  This seems awkward, especially if they are not familiar with WP.  To get to the actual website and access the forum, they need to click on the link from the top right corner of the page.  Is my registration configured right?  Feel free to create a user to test
