Support Forum
Hi,
I've been working with SimplePress on a development version of a site for a client and had it running really well on their test site. We came to move the site to their live server over the weekend and everything works apart from Simple Press and it's driving me nuts!
We have it running on my server here under a Wordpress Network install http://www.rcmodelresource.com.....yer/forum/ and it's working great.
We've now copied the entire installation, wordpress network, database, files and all to the new server here and it's refusing to pull in the stylesheets for the forum even though they're on the server and everything should be fine.

I'm under contract to get this working today and once this is up I then need to get domain mapping running (Hoping that doesn't throw another spanner in the works too) as this sub-site needs to be running on rcelectricflyer.com by Wednesday this week.
Can anyone shed any light on what might have gone wrong during the move?
Thanks in advance,
Justin
If you take a look at the CSS being loaded for the forum you will see that your server has just dumped the site HTML into it. In my experience this usually happens when either the file is not available or can not be opened for reading - or is corrupted and can't be read.
So I would start by doing the usual things. Check that the permissions are correct on the /sp-resources folder and it's sub-folders and files. Check that the storage locations are saying they are readable (forum admin > Integration). and then take a look at the file itself to ensure it has content and is not corrupt.

Hi Yellow Swordfish
Just checked the files, have also tried different themes etc and still no joy. Nothing seems to work as far as a theme is concerned. Permalinks are set correctly. All permissions are set correctly on the sp-resources folder etc and the sub folder and it's just refusing to play ball.
It has to be something weird with permalinks maybe but both htaccess files on both servers are identical. All file and folder locations are identical, as are the permalink settings and forum settings.

Just tried adding a new site to the network which will be the next one I have to set up for the same client and it's doing the same thing. Something majorly fundamental is wrong!

Thanks

Then the next thing would be to check your php error log. If anything went wrong as far as php is concerned then it would show up in there.
Permalinks don't come into loading CSS - that is just a straight path. Out of interest did you try the SP css-only theme as well?

No I've not tried that theme yet.
I'm getting loads of errors in the Simple Press Error log for files that exist, are in perfect health and should just work too 🙁
file: /simple-press/admin/panel-components/support/spa-components-prepare.php
line: 114
function: Unavailable
Warning | opendir(/problem-with-post-edit-buttonome/mode98/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/2/files/sp-resources/forum-smileys/) [function.opendir]: failed to open dir: No such file or directory
Etc... That folder is there, as are the files... exactly the same as on the other server 🙁
Smells like permission issues to me. I would check ownerships on the folders as this is what you would get if the owner of the folders was set incorrectly.
Either that or some setup of the server is blocking the paths but this is a little out of my territory of knowledge.
I would start with /sp-resources and check the permissions and ownerships for the folder and it's sub-folders against the permissions and ownerships for the /wp-content parent folder. They really need to be the same. I am betting they are different.

Hi,
My server admin just found one permission setting that was possibly incorrect. I also changed to the CSS Only theme and it jumped in to life. Now it's finally up and running with the proper theme, ready to hand over to my client!
Thank you very much for your help in narrowing the issue down. Much appreciated 🙂
Cheers
Justin
