You will notice there are a bunch of links to images and videos.  Is there a way to have simplepress automatically recognize those links and just embed them into the post as the actual pictures and videos themselves?

that link is not valid...

sp does auto recognize oembed urls - just like wp...  just make sure you paste in only the url... dont try to embed (with iframe for example on youtube)
