Hi,
I just installed SP 5.0 on a local server, I'm just playing around with it right now.
My dummy wordpress installation is in french, and it's working fine.
I downloaded the french front-end translation from glotpress as a .po (none of the strings are approved, but all are translated and waiting for approval. I filtered in order to have only the waiting ones, i.e. all the strings, and chose "export only the matching filter") and put it in my \wp-content\sp-resources\forum-language\simple-press folder.
I opened the po to check that everything was in order and that each string was translated, and I made the .mo
The name of the file is sp-fr.mo
The name of my wordpress language file was originally fr_FR.mo
I tried everything, renaming sp-fr to sp-fr_FR and setting WPLANG to "fr_FR" , I tried renaming fr_FR to fr and setting WPLANG to "fr", I even tried setting WPLANG to "sp-fr".
I also tried renaming sp-fr.mo to sforum-fr.mo, like it used to be in SP4
But although the wordpress is almost always translated, I couldn't get Simple Press to translate.
Did I miss anything ?
It doesn't matter as long as they are both the same.
So - if your WP_LANG is set to 'fr_FR' then the .mo file for the front end of SP need to be named 'sp-fr_FR.mo'.
Now if you do this are you absolutely sure it is not working? Don 't forget that the majority of the text you see in the forum is supplied by the SP theme NOT the core .

That was it !
I only downloaded the core translation, and not the theme translation.
Although some of those strings waiting for approval are badly translated (some are too long and break the UI), the translation is working correctly.
I'll be sure to help them improve this translation.
Thanks for your help.
