I try to download the Font Plug in and get this message. This is the first plugin I have downloaded that has not worked!

Now please understand - I know don't know much about technical stuff - thats why I use WP. So please give me an answer that will give me a solution  - I know nothing about code or tech speak.

The same with the add topic button that does not work - an answer of "check your integration or permissions" as given for the same problem just does nothing for me  and is poor, disinterested support. These errors should not be happening and there must be a fix that someone like me can do.

These 2 error are basically making the forum software unusable and I really want to use it.

I have checked my permissions and they seem to be OK

It gives a javascript void(null) error - on a number of computers + ipad

Did you upload the Simple:Press plugin (font resize) to the WordPress plugins folder by any chance? If so that is not where they go. It will inform you on the top of the SP plugins listing where they need to be loaded to and this codex article will also explain: http://codex.simple-press.com/.....g-plugins/

As to the Add Topic button 'not working' does that means it doesn't open the editor for you? If so then we can't escape some technical talk because it probably means you have a problem with your WordPress theme or another plugin that is 'doing something it should not be doing'. If you can give me a link to your forum page I might be able to tell you if this is the case.

I have added a list of plugins o my site . I did include my forum URL in the first email but here it is again - http://expert4x.com/forum/  do you need more? Yes the button does not produce any activity when clicked - it does not work.

I really hope we can get this going - it seems strange that everything has stopped due to small little buttons. Can't we just hard code the links.

OK - I have the Font Plugin loaded and active but the button "does not work" although it does give the descriptions when the cursor is over them.

I really hope we can get this going - it seems strange that everything has stopped due to small little buttons. As you can see from the Alexa ranking this site already has a good ranking without a forum.

your wp theme is throwing some jquery/js errors that are causing scripts to stop executing...

TypeError: FORMALIZE is undefined
http://expert4x.com/wp-content.....js?ver=1.2
Line 7

additionally something else, probably the same wp theme, is doing things incorrectly and loading its own version of jquery instead of the version that comes with wp

<script type='text/javascript' src='http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js?ver=3.5.1'></script>

see:  http://codex.simple-press.com/.....-conflict/

the wp devs and plugin authors couldnt recommend any stronger against doing this wrong...  If  you can find where in your wp theme its loading that version, we can help correct it to load the proper wp version...

It is like this: I buy the car and I know where to put the gas in. Thats it.

I have no idea what is under the hood.

What you have basically done is like a doctor telling the patient that he needs an operation and then expecting the patient to do the rest.

"I you can find" .... is like asking me the re-invent cell phone technology

I have only seen the front end of WP which is very good for people like me because it generally works.

I have no idea what happens after that.

What you told me meant very little. I have read long the article expaining all of this is more detail but it did not mean much to me - this is obviously a vert common problem that is not well catered for.

Can you at least guide me. I am just a normal WP user person. But, I can do things if guided.

Now this problem could potentially be related to the actual PC I am using (not the host setup where my WP program resides) - Could this be related to my brower (IE) and Jave combination.

Now I have about 5 other PCs I can use - All with different setups. I have found FireFox more reliable than IE for this type of thing. What if I use a different PC with a different browser - FF or Crome. What if I uninstal and reinstal using a different browser?  - just trying to find alternative solutions.

I really want to use this software to work - what worries me is if we get over this mountain is there another bigger one to climb or should we just call it a day right now.

nah, no reason to give up yet...  we can try to walk you through it...

you just happen to have chosen a wp theme that is violating the standards/api of wp itself...   other plugins and wp itself, can only test with the jquery that comes with wp... using anything else is a recipe for disaster...

so you need to search through your wp theme files and find where its outputting this line:

<script type='text/javascript' src='http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js?ver=3.5.1'></script>

typically, this is done in header.php or functions.php, but it can be in most any file... both windows and mac support searching files in a directory for a string...  see if you can find it...

actually, I am guessing its the wp theme based on location of that output and the next series of lines in the header...  you can verify if its the wp theme by doing a quick temp switch in the wp admin to the default wp theme (ie twenty twelve)...  and then see if things work better...

if its really the theme, we can get you through getting it fixed up...

I am pretty scarred of messing around with codes etc as I have built my website to a 60 000 Alexa ranking with lots of pages over the years.

I have however searched all the php files accessable from my WP admin on the theme and can't find

<script type='text/javascript' src='http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js?ver=3.5.1'></script>

I have then loaded the forum software and a plugin onto another website http://forextradeoftheday.com/forum/ and everything seems to be working perfectly with a very basic theme. This confirms that expert4x.com's theme is a problem - I will dedicate this new site to the forum.

The biggest disadvantage (which is the main reason I want to start a forum) is that I will lose all the traffic credit to my already successful site by sending my clients to another website - pity as I was hoping to get expert4x.com/forum into really HIGH traffic numbers..

Any thoughts

I would also like some assistance with the new dedicated site. I want a simple wide site template a bit like this one (your one) - I tried finding it on the Kriesi site but can't - Any assistance would be appreciated. I don't mind paying.

Alternatively how can I increase the width of my forum?

I am going to be creating a few Private forum and my need some help on dual permissions and private forum setup but will see how it goes.

You really should only search for the 'ajax.googleapis.com' part. And I see that it is loading version 3.5.1... that is now a very ancient version so no wonder it screws things up.

We can resolve this - there is no need to abandon it. But - you can help here. On this new install - are you using the same WordPress theme? If so - and the forum operates as expected then it is not the theme that is at fault and we will need to look at your other WP plugins instead.

If you want to PM myself and yellow swordfish a temp account with wp admin rights and sp admin capabilities, we can try taking a look in the wp theme editor and see if we can find it... if that works, be sure to link to this topic in the pm so we know what its about...

Hi, I did another search on ajax.googleapis.com and can't find it in the php files. I think my search was quite thorough.

I will send (PM) to you with a login to see if you can find anything - thanks for your help.

As you say - maybe it is one of the many plugins I use that is causing the conflict.

The new install on forextradoftheday.com/forum is using the Twenty Twelve template and is giving no problems. It is looking good. I almost have the whole forum setup so transfering the structure will not be difficult.

Side question:

Is it possible to present the total forum in a format where the groups are all closed when opening the forum. I find it (and my clients will) a bit overwhelming to see the groupheadings and forum listings in one go. With only the group headings showing the forum navigation seems easier. Like below
